Message: I protect my 01 dak with a compustar 2000AS alarm/starter. It pages you when your alarm is going off up to 1/4 mile away and has dual shock sensor. I paid $ 585 canadian for mine installed in a 5 spd (manual transmision is more expensive install!) Check out compustar.org they have a few different models!

The fact that you carry a .40 cal will certainly protect your truck from me LOL

Message: Sadly the .40 will only protect it when you're within firing range of the vehicle. Mine was stolen and fortunately recoverd, but I have the glowing ignition switch which you should not have in the 2002. Around here most of these trucks are stolen and lighlty stripped (radio disks valuables) then ditched. so basically you are just trying to make someone elses truck look like a better candidate than yours for theft. I have a "Club" type steering wheel lock called "D-vice" it has 4 prongs instead of the more tradidtional two prong look. When you put it on so that the prongs are on either side of the spokes of the steering wheel it is far harder to cut through the wheel to get it off. It hasn't been stolen since.
That's all I got for ya.
Middy.

Message: Get a good alarm and a hood lock. The hood lock will prevent anyone from disconnecting the battery or getting under the hood until you unlock it with a key (I have one that uses a Medeco key... very secure) The hood lock only costs around $100-250. The hood lock can be set up to disable your starter until it is unlocked or it can be integrated with an alarm so you always leave it locked.

Message: good insurance!! if someone wants it bad enough, they will take it
you could always bagg it, and get the switch box that has a lock on it. they cant drive it, with the frame laying on the ground, and they sure as hell cant tow it ;-)

Message: The more visible deterents you have the better, even if they are fake (ie blinking led). Personaly I have club, alarm(w/led) ign & starter kill, I also found a factory 'Security' dumy light in the speedo cluster. I found the biggest and brightest LED I could find and stuck it in there, now it blinks just like it's supposed to from the factory. Also keep it clean inside, don't have things lying around that can catch the eye. Theres no need to spend alot on an alarm system, what you should spend on is the install, I don't care how expensive the alarm is - if you get false alarms, it wasn't installed/adjusted correctly and could be just as easily disabled as a lesser priced alarm. Just because unit 'A'cost $300 more than unit 'B' doesn't mean it'll protect you 3 times better. I'm on my 12th year w/o a theft!

Message: not nessisarily... i was listining to a radio show, and they had a pro car theif on the show. and he said he would steel a car with the "club" before he would steel a car without it. it takes like 5 seconds at the most to take it off.
alarms dont work. how many times have you heard a car alarm going off and didnt pay attention to it? i hear them every day.
the thing that looks kind of cool, is the "club" type of device that hooks to the break pedle.

Install a kill switch. I think it's the cheapest, most reliable way to go. If they pop your ignition, it still won't start.

Message: I Got my 02 R/T hook up to a reed switch Hidden in the truck some where that connects to the fuel pump and when you pass a magnet over the hidden switch the fuel pump is then turn on allowing you to start the truck it is also hook to a bright blinking light showing you that it is fuctioning.you only have 5 seconds to start are the swicth shuts down are if the key is turn off you have 5 seconds to restart it.so its good for car jacking if you turn the truck off then run like hell and hopfully by that time 5 seconds passed and he cant start it. hopefully .

Message: I used to have a Viper alarm on my last car and you could adjust the sensitive switch to go off at certain vibration levels. It also had a starter kill switch, and if you leave your car and forget to set the alarm it will automatically set itself, kinda sux though when your at a car wash and forget to unarm it and it goes off and you annoy everyone.
