Subject: Taillight Removal? IP: Logged
Message: This may be a really stupid question, but you guys won't laugh at me for asking it! I have a brake light that went out on my 2001 Dakota. The regular running lights work, just not the brake light. How do I remove the rear taillight housing to get at it? I don't see any screws or rubber gromets. Do I just pull hard and yank the cover off? Thanks!

Message: Bill
Open the tailgate and on the upright beside the tail lite you'll see a torx screw. Remove that and pull the lens straight out.

Message: Thanks lew. I would have sworn I had looked there earlier, but I went out just now and found them and sure enough, the lens came right off after taking them out! Sometimes it is the smallest things that can make you feel the dumbest!!! Thanks again.

Message: Ha-Ha, when I first got my truck I remember looking at the taillights and wondering just how would they come out to change a bulb. Then when I had my cap put on they took one of them out to splice a wire as I was standing there and the mystery was no more.

Message: Heh, my dad and uncle have Rams with some all steel camper shells that have racks built on and back doors, I don't even know if my uncle's fixed his tail light yet because you'd have to remove the 500Lb shell just to get to the screw.
