Message: No, the program is stored on an EEPROM, or, Electronicly Eraseable Programable Read-Only Memory. It's pretty much permenent unless the EEPROM chip is damaged, or you 'flash' it, which erases the chip and loads an updated program.
It's basically the same type of chip as your BIOS chip. Notice how the BIOS on your computer doesn't actually lose it's data when you remove the battery? It -does- loose the settings though, since those are stored in a more conventional RAM style chip. Your truck's computer works the same way, remove power and it looses it's settings (hence, resetting the PCM).
