I developed a whining noise from the differential and the dealer says it's the crown & pinion. Claims he's never heard of this before on a new truck with 8000 miles. Anyone else have this problem? He also recommends synthetic for the rear end for boat towing.

Chrysler has put out a dealer mail saying any truck with the towing package should have the oil changed to synthetic.

What kind of synthetic did the dealer mail specify? Any difference in fluid weight? Anything on the friction modifier for the LSD?
I'm asking because on Monday I'm having new front and rear gears put in my truck (going to 3.90's). I was going to use the regular stuff specified in the service manual for the first 500 miles for break-in, then switch to synthetic after that. While I'm asking, what is the friction modifier? Is there a commercial name for it?
Any info would be appreciated.

Its friction modifier or snake oil or what ever you want to call it,most parts stores carry it mopar has their own bottle too,some of the synthetic lubes allready have modifier in them,read the label,maybe CW can tell us what they recommend as far as a syn lube and weights for the rear ends and standard trans

Of course they reccomend the Mopar 75w140 with mopar fiction additive.:) Already did it in my truck.
