Subject: Fumoto Valve Question IP: Logged
Message: I have been debating on getting the Fumoto valve to make oil changes easier. I have decided to get it! But I have seen people suggesting to get the model F-106 N w/ the nipple. Do we need the model with the nipple, and what is the nipple for?

Thanks

Message: I have the Fumoto on my truck, and I love it. It makes oil changes a breeze. I don't know what model mine is, but it has the nipple. You can put a hose on the nipple, extend the hose into your drain pan, and have absolutely no mess. I would recommend getting one with the nipple, just for the convenience factor. I have had mine for about 15,000 miles, and have had no leaks, etc. It's really a nice piece.

Message: F106N is the one you want for the 4.7L and NO you do not need the adapter. I have had the F106N on my 4.7L QC for months now. The nipple is so you can attach a small piece of 3/8" O.D. hose on it and use the hose to drain to a container or leave in place and extend just below the skid plate if you have one.

Message: Also along with the Fumoto, I use a 2 liter plastic soda bottle and it works great. Leave cap on an empty 2 liter plastic soda bottle and then with say a razor cut about 3 inches off the bottom of the bottle. Use your filter wrench and loosen up the oil filter and then slip the open end of the soda bottle up through the access whole and onto/over the oil filter. Squeeze the soda bottle and turn until the filter is loose and falls into the bottle. Lower the soda container with the filter down and out of the access whole. Can tell you filter is pretty hot so I use a pair of latex gloves on my working hand to insulate from the heat.

Message: Also you may consider the Fram Sure Drain. I have one but not installed it yet seems very robust as well as having a redundant sealing system. Even if the valve sealing system fails there is a thick protective cover with an O-ring. And it includes the drain tube in the kit.

Message: I have had the Fumoto on my 318 for probobly close to 50k and it is still fine. Makes oil changes easy and it has a nice positive locking valve. Them nipple on mine is slightly dented in, guess it bottomed on something. Other than that it is great.

Message: I have the Fram Sure Drain system installed on my truck and I'm very happy with it. The fit and finish are great. I have the SD-1 part number installed on my 2002 3.9 It's half the price of the Fumoto and has a lower profile.

Message: I'll stay with my fumoto valve....they've been proven for many years... The ball valve is much more reliable...
plus, no "dust cover" to lose, or drain hose to lose... with the fumoto valve, if you lose the piece of hose you connect to it to drain the oil, no big deal, just get another piece of hose...with the FRAM, buy another Sure Drain for the hose...
I'll pay a little more for a better valve, without parts to lose...
Later!

Message: Yup...Summit.
BTW: My old (sold) Javelin had a Fumoto valve on it for over 12 years...never leaked and never had a problem.
