ok, i went up to muffler man just to see what they had to say about getting a new muffler, and mainly a catco, because that seems to be the big problem with mine. i've been leaning towards getting a gibson side sweep because thats what most people seem to run here. but i was talking w/ the guy and getting prices and whatnot, and this is what he said....tell me what you think.

he told me that for $234 he would put on a 3" side sweep aluminized??? flo-pro muffler on my 3.9 dakota. he also claimed that this will sound better and perform better than gibson, borla, flowmaster, he said flo-pro is the best!?!

now the price of the deal definately seems about right, speedtweaks wants like 350 for the gibson and i still gotta put the thing on. but if the gibson sound better and performs better, than i guess its worth it????

secondly, he gave me a quote on a "regular flow" catalytic converter replacement which i thought was a little steep, he said it would cost me like 250 installed because of some sensor that was on the end of the pipe??????? and if i wanted hi-flo i was looking at another 60. now this seems a little bit high because speedtweaks has the "hi-flow one for like 90 bucks, and im sure i can put the thing on pretty easily, its like 4 bolts... correct??? now is there something different about muflermans catco and the one on speedtweaks???? does speedtweaks include the little sensor doflicky???

tell me what you think, would i be best off, buyin my own catco and letting them go to town on the muffler???? tell me what you think, i need some opinions

thanks....btw...sorry its so long

I haven't heard pro flo so I can't say how it sounds relative to the Gibson. Ask him if he has any reference customers. Even if they aren't the same model as yours you might get a general idea what it would sound like.

I really like my Gibson. It was a bolt in replacement. It is a good amount of work to get everything right and for the mechanically inclined.

Cats are welded in the exhaust line in and out, not a bolt in. It depends on the year of you truck but you do have sensore after the cat that are making sure it's working. My 2001 has 3 cats, one on each side with a sensor before and after and a third on the combined flow with no sensor after it. I hear the 2002's have a sensor after the 3rd cat. If you don't replace the sensors it will cause computer problems and engine problems. I personally would not revise my cats myself, I would take them toa shop for that. Hi flow cats probably will not buy you anything unless you are planning to a lot of other modifications. You may even lose some torque if you open up the exhaust too much.

Go with the gibson, good company and good products, I have gibson stainless headers and cat back on My Quad Cab, Had a gibson catback on My Ranger for 5 years with no problem and it really sounds good (not to loud, good low rumble)
