When my truck hit 15000 miles I started running synthetic oil in it, typically Valvoline Synthetic oil. How often do I need to change this. I've now got 30k on the truck and have been changing about every 5k miles. Is that often enough? Is synthetic really worth the extra dough?

iv'e been using amsoil synthetic for 22 years, in my daks i change at 20,000 miles and filter every 10,000 miles, i have had very good service with oil, cold starting is very much better than dino oil. in my opinion yes it is worth using synthetic lubricants, even if you change every 5k

Jeremy, please understand that those extended drain intervals that AMSOIL promotes is not intended for other brands, just AMSOIL. With the additives that other companies use in their oils you will probably be fine with changes at 5K. If you don't think it is often enough, then change it sooner. As many other threads have said if you change the oil at regular intervals, like 3K, dino oil will suit you fine. Check the tips & tricks section on http://www.speedtweaks.com for some good oil info. Good luck.
