Message: I got a 99 ranger today(shops truck),and i cant find any switch on the doors that control the dome light. No wonder the previous guy removed the dome bulb.I do have a switch on the dash to dim & on/off the dome light, but no switchs in the doors.I know this is the dak site, but ford has no equilivant to this great site, and I figure my fellow dak owners are a smart bunch. thanks ,jj

Message: I used to drive a 95 Ranger B 4 I got this truck and the electical wiring was messed up big time. I had to take the dome light out, the light that stays on the 3rd brake light after you open the door, and the glove box light. I found out they were staying on all the time after I left my truck and they were draining my battery. With the door closed if U hit a bump it'd jiggle the door and the door ajar bell would go off even though the door was shut. All kinds of problems. Glad I'm rid of that POS...no offense to you just a bad experience.

Message: I too have an issued Ranger, and have had the same problem. Our mechanics have told me the problem is a plunger switch in the door [interior] that sticks. Try taking the door panel off and check the hinge area for the 'hidden' plunger switch and lube it. Or, loose the dome lamp,...D

Message: I used to have a Ranger '99 4X4 to be exact... I had the same problem with the dome light. What you have to do is spray some WD-40 or a cleaner into the door latch. Ford integrated the dome light switch into the door latch and when it gets dirty the dome light stays on.
BTW, I just rented a Ranger from Budget for a trip I'm taking... I miss my DAK!! This Ranger SUCKS!! The engine is loud (not a good sound), it feels like it will tip over at any time because it is so narrow. And most of all, when you step on the gas it doesn't take off. Brings back many horrible memories. Now I remember how much I like my DAK.
Good luck with your dome light thing.

Message: Too true!! Ranger = harsh ride, not fun to drive, my 5.9 gets almost the same gas mileage [as compaired to the Frod v6]-Oh, did I mis-spell Ford? How could that have happened????
I'd love for the City to buy Dakotas, but it seems the 'state car' is Fdor. Oh, did I mis-spell Ford AGAIN????,...D

Message: I have been issued a 96 ford ranger for a company truck. The dome light doesnt bother me but the door ajar alarm drives me nuts.
I have also noticed poor gas milage. I think my last fill-up I got 14.9 mpg. My Dakota would get about a mile less for the same driving. Odd, for half the engine I thought I would get better gas milage.
I miss driving my Dakota, but when you do water main construction inspection, I don't mind tearing up the ranger. I don't like having to dump the clutch to get off the ground though.

Message: I had the same problem 02 Ranger. I had to get inside my door and unplug the sensor. Luckily the problem was in my passenger door. Now there is no light when the passenger door is opened but it works fine with the drivers door.
