 Subject: 2001 Stereo Replacement

I am trying to find out how to replace my stock stereo with my JVC Headunit on my 2001 Dakota Sport, but i can't figure out how to get the old on out for one, and i can't find the kit to make the stock hole the right size, i have seen a picture on one but no were to buy one....If anyone has some advise or experiance please e-mail or post.

I attempted to put a new head unit in my 2001 SLT CC last winter. I ended up not putting the head unit in because it didn't look right. Like kevster said, crutchfield is very helpful for finding parts. Try calling their help line, good people answering the phones for free advice.
As for the removal of the stock radio, you need to take the facing off the whole dash. It isn't necessarily hard, but you have to be careful and go slow so you don't break anything. I wish I had the site address, but I have seen a website where a guy has diagramed the whole process for removing the dash in a Dakota. Once you get the dash removed, there are just four (i think) bolts holding the head unit in and then a couple of wires in the back that you just unplug. Not too difficult really. Good luck!

2002 sxt has a round face radio (not square opening ) with a odd antenna conector. antenna cable has a coax type female end???!! the radio connector was a one piece too

DC changed the layout of the stereo in 2001. You won't be able to find a 1.5DIN that has the rounded edges yet. You can buy a 1DIN unit and buy the spacer and it should work for you.
