Message: Snap-On Tools has several tools made
specifically for this task and the most amazing
selection of needle nose pliers I've ever seen.
I bought a 490ACP needle nose pliers and a
YA824-B boot removal tool (also pliers). The
boot removal tool works really well. It attacks
the problem by gripping the boot over the
spark plug porcelain. Just twist (to break the
boot loose) and pull. No damage to the plug
wire either.
I used it on a 92 Toyota V-6 and what used to
be an chore I dreaded, became no big deal.
When you reinstall the plug wires, coat the
inside of the boot with MSD Spark Guard or a
similar product. Makes it easier to remove the
boots in the future.
