Subject: rattleing noise under truck IP: Logged
Message: i got this wierd rattling noise under my truck that i get when i either: turn the wheel slowly near its ending point, pop in into gear either drive or reverse, and then again when i start to move a little bit, especially if im turing a little as i move. but as soon as i am going, say over 10 or a lil less the noise is gone. i wedge up my muffler at the pipe w/ a hammer the other day and it helped a lil but not completely... has anyone else ever had the prob or have any idea what it could be???? i have 500 miles left on my factory warrenty, but its only the powertrain warrenty, i dont want to take it to them and have them charge me and arm and a leg if its not a powertrain deal...wtf....btw...if it is muffler is that powertrain???????

Message: Climb underneath and give the cat a bang with you hand when it is cold. See if it rattles.

Message: aight i gave that a try and heard nothing major, it seemed pretty solid i guess. the part that has me baffled is the fact that the noise isn't always there, like i was messing around w/ it today and just had it idleing and the noise would kidna come and go every 45 sec or so and stick around for like 10-15 seconds a burst. but still if i proped up the exahust w/ a hammer ;) and waited the noise was still kinda there but really muffled (kinda just regular engine kinda noises, im assuming)
could i be dumb and just have a heat shield prob...does that sound right?

Message: The shield between the drive shaft and gas tank came loose on my dak twice and created a sound similar to what you described. It caused the shield to rub slightly on the shaft. Climb underneath and look for a "clean" band on your drive shaft. If you see it, check the proximity of the gas tank shield.
