Subject: Just bought my 99 Dakota... Problems.... IP: Logged
Message: I just bought my 99 Dakota. I bought it from the local dealership for a fair price and am very satisfied, or at least I thought. I had noticed the alignment was a little off, so after a few times, and taking the truck somewhere else I found out that the upper ball joints in the front were bad. Now, the dealership should have noticed this, apparently it wouldnt even pass inspection in the neighboring state. I am very concerned about other problems the truck could potentially have. What is my best route to take here? I dont really have a great mechanic, since the Vette I owned before I did everything myself on. I just am trying to think of any other things these trucks might have at around 35k miles...

Message: The ball joints aren't too tough to do your self. Just make sure you use Moogs instead of crappy OEM ones. While you're at it, check the upper control arm bushings. Heat from the exhaust manifolds does the OEM ones in PDQ.
If it's an automatic, have it flushed, get a new filter, and have the trans shop put in a shift kit.
Change the thermostat to a 180 (you've probably got a 195 now).
