Subject: Quick tune up help!! IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 dak with a 5.2L V8. Did my first tune up on it since I've owned it. Taylor wires, brass rotor and cap. Everything was fine, except I misread one of the numbers that I marked on the old wires, tried switching the 2 I misread. Started it up and got a pretty ruff idle and in any gear it was horrible, also the smell of gas. So, I don't know what wires I f'd-up. Can someone please tell me the correct order starting from the 1 on the distributor and going right? I know the firing order, but does that start at the 1 and go right, to the 8 cylinder and around the cap?
Also, I removed my K&N set up to make things easier, and found that the metal ring that touches the gasket had broken away from the air hat!! Pulled it back through and sealed it with silicon gasket material. Any thoughts on this, looks like it has been that way for some time, I've owned it for couple of years, never removed it. Can I over tighten the bolt, I'm usually pretty careful about things like that.

Message: Just see which way your rotor button turns and go from there. As long as you know which wire is #1.
Their has been filters replaced from K&N for your problem at no charge.

Message: The firing order is on the intake manifold just in front of the TB. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 there is also a TSB on proper placement of the wires from the distributor. I think the procedure is in the "Tips and Tricks" page of the Speedtweaks page, once again thanks Bernd and Tom, great site.

Message: Thanks for the help, problem solved. Where should I go for the filter replacement? I've had it so long that I probabley don't have the receipt. I don't even remember where I bought it. Will any K&N dealer replace it?
