Subject: dakota rts?

Message:
Ok I have a question, I've always been into
lowriders and just recently I spent the summer
with my cousin who has a Dak. He told me a
lot about it. Also while I was there I got into the
races. Well anyway here's the thing My cousin
told me that a Dodge Dakota RT is the best for
racing, that nothing can beat it, except for the
Ford Lightning, and that's before
modifications. So is this true and what can
beat it after mods are done?? I have had a lot
of people here in New Mexico tell me that daks
are not good for racing... But I believe my
cousin, but I thought I'd ask about it before I go
and save up my money and invest in getting
one. Being a girl, I wasn't taught much about
vehicles, so everything I know I got from
watching, and listening to everyone around
me. Anyways laters for now

The Dakota R/T is the fastest normally asperated truck produced today. If you took all brand new unmodified trucks to a track and tested them, the R/T would come in second only to the Ford Lightning(or new HD F-150) Now, if you buy a R/T expecting to beat everything on the street, you are greatly mistaken. Even though we can hold out own the R/T is beatable. Not many people keep their vehicles stock anymore. At least not the ones you will see on the street that want to race. The R/T has the best performance per dollar of any truck today. Think of it as a blank canvas to build on. Normally asperated with no performance mods from the factory other than suspension and wheels. You can modify it as you please, and don't have to worry about working with what the factory decided was the best part. If you plan on buying new, you better save fast. The future of the Dak R/T looks pretty grim. I would try to find a used '98-'00 R/T though since you can get custom computer programing for them.

Hay, Dakotas are the Best hands down, In the truck catagory, in my opinion, as far as the R/T, thay are the ones that will usaly run the lightnings, But there are also different V8's, the 5.2,4.7, and these engins modded and even the 3.9 V6 can be real mean depending on the mods and alot of differnet things, but there are many things to choose from in a dakota, But you are on the right track, get you a dakota!!!!

Used R/T's can be had for pretty cheap. Its a good bet if you like automatics and they are pretty quick. Tons of engine mods, but its 50's technology. Just a big box of torque, but that's good for racing. Don't get black! This is random, I know.

Ok so basically it is a good truck, which is good. I have been into cars all my life as Jesse would know. Of course I knew it would be beatable cause of course all vehicles are right? I looked up some Dakotas in general, what would be the best besides the RT to get also? As you can tell this summer had a really big influence on me haha. How do you mean it looks pretty grim HSKR? I know that I want a truck, because that's what I am into. I ran out of things to say right now to lol. Go figure right.

So I still have alot to learn. So I could actually find a good used Dakota R/T or a Dakota in general for cheap? How much is cheap? lol Right now I don't have the money for anything, but this way I can figure out how much money I should save for a down payment and so forth. I heard that Daks in general run real expensive well kinda anyway. If I remember correctly someone told me the cheapest you could get a dak would be for like some where around $22,000 + . Is that true?

You can get a nice used R/T for under $15K. Brand new they are around $22K. Other options you might want to check into are the '98-'99 318 5-speed combo's, or the '00+ 4.7 5-speed combo.

If you want speed without the best looks a 94-96 regular cab, 5.2 (318), 5-speed would be pretty tough to beat. It would be under $10,000 and has a ton of aftermarket available. They are pretty rare and many may not have survived. The boxier Dakotas were 300 pounds lighter then the current ones. Personally I think the R/T just looks sooo much better, I had an old 93 Dakota and watched a video today of a 15.00 sec 1/4 mile pass I made in it. That made me happy performance wise as I had less then $500 in mods in that truck and it was an automatic with 3.55 gears to boot, but my current R/T has that good straightline performance along with better handling and looks. I actually only paid $2000 more for my R/T then I paid for my 93 back when it was new! Lots of nice used R/Ts can be found for $15,000-$19,000. Some more "driven" R/Ts are closer to $12,000 and a new simple RC R/T can be bought for under $20,000 pretty easilly. Go to the advanced search at www.autotrader.com and put in 98-2000 Dakota and specify v-8 and 2wd. That will get some 5.2, 4.7's, and R/Ts. If you want only a manual or automatic you can specify that as well, but with a manual you will eliminate all R/Ts.

Ok sounds good. You guys are helping me out a lot. It is rather interesting that I can go on a page and just ask a question and actually get answered. Which is kinda crazy in a way lol. It's nice to know that the cheapest doesn't run around $22,000 +. :)

Well all the numbers are engin sizes
V8's = 4.7, 5.2 , 5.9
V6's = 3.9

The 4.7 is real quick if it is a stick, the auto is pretty quick also, this is a new engine that dodge is making for the V8, not too many mods yet, but there are many to come

The 5.2 I dont know too much about but i know that it is very durrable, and can be modded real easy.

The 5.9 is a beast, it has alot of torque and is one of the quickest but only comes in an automatic, plenty of mods to so to this one.

The 3.9 is a durable V6 that has plenty of mods that can be done to it, it is probaly going to be cheaper to get used,

If i were you I would get a dak from the years of 98 to 2000,

Just my 2 cents

Try E-bay, I belive the reason that there aint too many dakotas in the trader is beacuse once you get one you never want to let it go and that is the reason that you dont find them too often,at least that is what i think.

If you want a dakota get it. If you want to beat a lightning, forget the dakota and buy a lightning or muscle car. I've seen them run low 13's. In my Camaro SS, I raced several at the drag strip. Some ran 13.7 and one or two ran ~13.6.
My best race ever was in my 99 camaro ss 13.33 to his (lightning)13.34. He had a chip and K&N filter and ALSO weighted about 300 lbs., he was a fat muther fuggger!
Get a dak and spend thousands (literally) trying to get in the 13's when a stock lightning for 29k willl already be in the 13's. Modify that and you get low 13's and step into the 12's and maybe the 11's.

yea but you can buy a used R/T for $15000+/- and mod the hell out of it, and SMOKE a lightning. you could get a 408 stroker with a supercharger running in the low 11's (if you can get traction) and still have money left over. some one on here had that combo in a 4x4 and was beating C-5 vetts!

Right, can't stand ford so ex-nay on the ford lightning. Sh*t that thing would be falling apart the week after I would buy it. Fords really suck ass and stuff. And how would Frank Para be helpin me out even if they hadn't sold it... kinda too far away and stuff. Now the info on the daks are pretty tight for real, I'll check it out here in a minute and stuff... :)

There is not anything new that you can buy that compares to the bang for the buck offered up by a Dakota. The 4.7 5-speed is actually the best stock, it can be had for just over $15,000 new after rebates and all, but it is tougher to mod. The new R/T for $19,000 and $3000 in mods will equal or beat a Lightning and you still haven't added a turbo, blower, or N2O. I have yet to see a new supercharged Lightning go for under $30,000, most dealers get well over $30,000 for them. So what do you think is better, a $15,000 Dakota with $17,000 in mods or a pure stock Lightning?

I think I'd choose the dak any day. Hate fords can't stand them. Not sure why anyone would perfer a ford over a Dak or a Chevy, non the less they do. I think they were dropped on there heads when they were born lol. but that's just my opinion. The dak comes out cheaper from what I've seen and comes out with better performance once you've done everything and you won't have to worry about it dieing a week later or having to take it into the shop because it's a POS ford. right?

http://blackdakrt.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi wasn't bad. Although it was interesting reading about the guy that had the R/T clown on it majorly, and beg for people to buy it saying it was a mistake to buy the Dak in the first place. To me it sounds like he just doesn't know how to run it correctly, perhaps that's just the case. Or maybe he too was dropped on his head, what do you think? lol
