How do you tell whether you have a bad starter or bad ignition switch? Seems that every other time I try to start the mighty dodge it clicks at me, but most of the time if i turn the key back to the off position and try again it fires up. Any ideas?

That actually sounds like the solinoid on the starter. If the dash lights up and everything, the switch is fine. Clicking from the engine compartment when trying to crank is usually the starter solinoid.

Yeah, the lights are all coming up and just every other time I am rewarded with a healthy click from it. Can the solnoid be changed out seperate from the started or do I need a whole new unit?

That depends on the year I think. Some of them you need a whole new unit, some you can just replace the solinoid on. Probally call an autoparts store and tell them you need a solinoid and see what they say.
