Message: Since it's a new trim level this year, I was just curious how many SXT owners are out there? Where are you all from? I am from NY and bought my 2002 this past Christmas (album #18 on viewer's rides, 2nd one in, last row).

Message: I'm from Wisconsin and I bought my SXT in February. The foglights aren't an option. Chances are those SXTs were custom installed. I plan on putting some on mine pretty soon. Right now I'm diverting all my money to boosting performance before doing anything cosmetic.

Message: How do you like your Extang cover? Is it difficult to get it reattached during the cold months? I was looking at the Extang Tuff Tonno III before going with the Sport Masters snap cover because a couple of Aftermarket dealers were telling me how customers complained about trying to reattach the snapless covers in the winter time.
The only things I've added to my SXT thus far has been a Mopar Bedliner, the SportMasters Tonneau and a POP'N LOCK. Next addition will be nerf bars.

Message: I really like the Extang. Yeah, it is a bit difficult to reattach in the winter, but I figure that it'll get better once it loosens up with use. It's not often that I have to take the tonneau off anyway. I almost got a Lakeland snap tonneau, but I opted for the smooth snapless look instead.

Message: The SXT is supposed to be the "budget" model so I am guessing that's why they limit certain things (ie V8 engine). No biggie. From what I've been hearing, people are having more problems with the 4.7 v8 w/auto tranny than us with the V6s. I could be wrong but just going by what I have been hearing. When I bought mine, the salesman showed me a Dak Sport equipped the same as my SXT and the Sport was $100-$200 more because the SXT came packaged with the said equipment and it was kind of like "a la carte" with the Sport. Anyhow, I am happy with the SXT thus far. I didn't buy it for it's performance (speed) features anyway. I got it for hauling things.

Message: I'm going to install the foglights by Pilot that were designed for the Dakota. Half the price of the factory kit. =) It's all about the money!
I got the SXT because I didn't need a lot of features. It just fit what I wanted. On top of that, I got an incredible deal that I couldn't pass up. I almost bought a Tacoma Prerunner. I'm glad I didn't. The Dakota has way more style. I knew that the V6 wasn't the most powerful or efficient engine, but I saw that as a challenge. I'm not wild about the graphite trim... I'm planning on getting that painted/replaced with the Patiot blue trim.

Message: I'd rather have the trim all one color too but I must say that the graphite trim does compliment dark garnet red rather well. Blue on the other hand.......I understand why you want to get the trim repainted. The graphite trim IMHO only goes well with the graphite, grey and dark garnet red colors (white and black ok too). I agree with you on the efficiency part. The best milage I've ever got thus far combined city/hwy is 19MPG. I too would like to eventually make it a bit more efficient (K&N, Catbacks etc). I just want to make sure my dealer is going to give me any Sh!+ about the warranty with the add ons.

Message: Oh yeah, I got the SXT for the same reason. I didn't require much. Didn't want any extra power equipment. All I needed was a CD player, A/C, 4x4, and the tire/handling package. SXT came standard with it. Would be cool to have the CD/Cassette combo and the Heavy Duty group but it wasn't a necessity.

Message: I have a 2002 DAK SXT club cab that i bought 1 week after they hit the lots....White with the charcoal trim. I am TOTALLY happy with my truck. I really like the cosole / bucket seats.
If you look hard, the SXT sits a little higher than the sport, partially because of the tire wheel package. 2 options you don't want to pass up..even though you can't get the V8... make sure you get the heavy duty suspension package (not sure if this might be standard) and the 3:92 gears.

Message: If your going to install fog lites i'd recommend you don't buy the original mopar. I've got them on my sport and they don't do anything other than look good. If your looking for more brightness at nite these won't help. I'm sure there are aftermarkets that are better. What about headlites, what's brighter than the originals? These are lousy.

Message: We looked at those last September and the salesman was practically trying to give them away. We wanted a club cab V8 Dakota and he kept knocking down the price on the SXT , he ended up quoting us $15,000 for a '02 SXT CC with a V6 or $15,000 for a RC motorsports edition 4.7 auto , 3.92 SG but wouldn't make a deal on a V8 Club Cab so we walked and bought a '99 318 Club Cab with 36,000 miles.

Message: don - those "no starts" is not normal. go see your dealer. haven't seen any replacement antenna. I'd just assume leave that as is. doesn't bother me really.
bruceman-i liked that too about the SXT, the ride height. great for easily running through snow and whatnot. 4x4 is nice too. heavy duty group is not standard. :-(
lewndi-my headlights seem fine. as a matter of fact some oncoming traffic actually flash their hi beams at me thinking mine are on high.... and mine aren't and they are aimed properly too.
moparjoe-what market are you in? seems like dealers here sell quite a few SXTs (of course nothing close to the Sports but they sell here in Upstate NY). I looked at my SXT and also a similarly equipped Sport model and the SXT was a few hundred cheaper and I liked the looks much better than the Sport.

Message: say what ya want.... but even with the 3.9, if you set it up right suspension and tire / wheel wise, the SXT is a pretty kick lookin truck.
I've already installed a westin safari bar, nerf bars, KC long range 5X7's up front (who needs them funky dodge fog lights). Right now I've got a racerback and lunar visor at the paint shop. Up top on the racerback is 4 more KC's goin (now them deer will have somethin to look at!). Next up is some performance mods.. K&N kit, dual exhaust. Thinkin about a 3" body lift, but 2002 kit hasn't hit the market yet. I sent in my app for your membership, but havn't received the confirmation yet. I'll post pics once everything is set up.

Message: For you guys who purchased a Sport Master tonneau cover, they are great. I bought one 3 years ago for my 95 4x4 3.9 x-cab and it still is nice. Its great how you dont have to play with the buttons cause they have a little screw to hold them in place. One thing, use some armor all on it a couple times each summer so it doesnt fade too much. I just purchased one for the 99 4x4 318 x-cab i just bought a couple weeks ago. Wondering, how much you guys paid for the cover?

Message: gregdakota. I paid $199 for mine installed. I don't think it gets any better than that really. I like the adjustment spacers too. So far I am loving mine. Just a word of advice though. DON'T use Armor All on that cover. If you don't believe me talk to the manufacturer. They don't recommend using ANY silicone based product on it. It looks nice now but actually accelerates the fading and deterioration of the vinyl. USE 303 AEROSPACE PROTECTANT. Also, get a little petroleum jelly and apply it to the snaps. Makes for easier operation.
