Subject: 2001 replacement fog light bulb # ? IP: Logged
Message: Hello all, anyone know a replacement bulb part # and brand for the factory fog lights? Went to local auto parts they have a GE book and don't even list a replacement part #. I'm looking for something brighter.
Thanks

Message: hardbody - on our 2001 the bulb number was 898 ... but they vary, check your owners manual.
Good luck finding a replacement ... I couldn't.
With the plastic lens' it will probably be very difficult to upgrade to a brighter bulb.
I am in the process of just replacing the fog lights with some after-market Halo lights. That way I don't have to fiddle around with plastic lens' and impossible bulbs. Many places carry fog and/or driving lights ... I just happened to get mine a AutoAccessories.com. (they advertise on this site)

Message: The factory bulb is series 898, but 894 and 891 are suitable replacement sizes.

Message: 894 bulbs are the same wattage, means same heat output. But the y put out 25% more light. The stock bulbs in mine, 899, had a dark grey ceramic coating on the end, I suppose to cut glare for on-coming traffic. I think this coating, being dark grey, absobs and re-radiates the majority of the heat. Being th eclosest part of the bulb to the lens, I would think it could be the cause of the heat checking and cracking in the plastic lenses.
I have been running my foglights with the 894's a lot. It is winter now, maybe the cool weather keeps the heat transferring to the cold air. Will have to see if these bulbs crack the lense too, when the summer heat arrives.
