Subject: Club Cab Underseat Storage IP: Logged
Message: I am considering using the space in the underseat storage to mount an amplifier. I don't know the dimensions of the compartments. I also don't know whether there is clearance between the seat bottom and the compartments for air to pass thru.
Help if you know!
Thanks

Message: I'm not sure that I know exactly what you are asking BUT I'll give it a shot.....
There is no place for air circulation as the area exists in stock form...the front of the seat closes againse the front of the compartment.
The shapes are not flat so mounting all but a small amp would not work out. It appears as though you could hack up the storage area and probably make a good flat area for amps.
My suggestion (I've been laying out my system plans) is to put the amps under the front seats. I have 2 Alpine VR12 4x50 amps and each fits nicely under a front seat and can't be seen from outside of the truck. I figure with these amps, replaced front/rear speakers, stealth sub box and the factory headunit....I should have a killer almost invisible system.
If I can be of more help, let me know...

Message: I have a 98 club cab and I put a sony xplod amp under the front passenger seat. Completely hidden. Then I bought a MTX Thunderform which replaces the factory club cab storage under the rear seats and has 2 10" subs in it. AWESOME!!! Again, completely hidden. Just wanted to toss in my $0.02 and give you another idea.

Message: Hey Justin, did you do the install of the MTX Thunderform yourself or did you have it prof. done? Do you have to hack up the plastic under the rear seat or does it easily pull out. How is this system completely hidden? Does it just vibrate through the rear seats? I have been loooking for something like this but cant seem to find it on the MTX website. Could you also tell me how much you paid. Any info would be appreciated.

Message: I did the install myself. The factory club cab storage comes out pretty easy, only 5 screws holding it in (1 in each cup holder and three in the back). It's recommended that you remove some of the plastic surrounding the unit so you can more easily remove it without scratching anything. A HAYNES manual has a good discription of what to do to remove the plastics (can buy it at Pep Boys for $12.00).
The unit is completely hidden because it REPLACES the under seat storage compartment in the club cabs. Go to the MTX website and look in car audio, then look up Thunderforms and it will have a good pic of the unit.
As far as price is concerned I did some shopping around and the best price I was able to find was at WWW.NEXXON.COM Total cost was $279.00 out the door shipped to my house and loaded with the subs too. It took about 2 weeks from when I ordered it until it arrived at my house. It's WELL worth it!!

Message: As far as the stock stereo having a sub outlet...I'm really not sure, it probably depends on if you paid more $$$ to upgrade it when you bought it. Usually stock stereo's will not have one. But if you're gonna upgrade your speaker's you should definately upgrade your head unit (unless you paid some extra $$$ for it at the dealership). I installed a sony xplod head unit (5000 model) and it's on sale for like $140 at local electronic stores here in Cali, so a new deck isn't too much $$$.

Message: My best guess would be NOT since the box it came in specifically said dakota 1997-2000. But you can check out the MTX website (www.mtxaudio.com) and you should find your answer there.
