Subject: Fog Light Switch Conversion IP: Logged
Message: Has anybody converted the fog light switch to work independent of the parking lights?? I know in my 2002 the only way to activate the fogs is to have it in the parking light "on" position. If anyone knows an easy way to change the switch so that when it is in the vertical position only the fogs are getting power and in order to activate the parking lights you would have to go full right and have the headlights on as well. I can probably figure it out, but hey that's what this list is for. I realize that this would make it impossible to just have the parking lights on but I don't mind. I am getting clear corners and what's the point if I turn the parking lights on. Thanks guys. Grady

Message: When you hit the hi-beams, it cuts power to the relay coil, so what you (and I) want to do is prevent this. One way might be to rig the foglights so they aren't switched thru the headlight switch, just by the " foglight switch" on the dash. Ok guys here we go. First pull the headlight switch. second find the blue/black wire on the 14 pin connector. Third, Find the black/green wire on the 2 pin connector. Fourth, connnect them with a short wire that is the same gauge. (do not cut them apart). Fifth tape them up, solder, them , whatever you want, but make sure to protect them. Sixth, test them. Seventh, put it back together.
This worked for my truck but I'm not responsible if it doesn't work for yours.

Message: In most States it is Illegal to use fogs without the park lights on at the same time, using just Fogs will get ya a ticket, check your State laws.

Message: Thanks a lot Larry, I believe I will try that this weekend. I have tried it before on an old beater and messed up the switch. I have more experience with electronics now, so I think it will be ok. I hate it when I turn the hi-beams on and the fogs go off, what a stupid law. Have bigger worries than fog light laws with the way I drive...

Message: Both the laws dealing with fog lights and parking lights being on at the same time and the fact you aren't allowed to have bright lights on with fogs may be stupid laws, but a lot of cops will nail you on it. Hope you can afford the tickets!!!

Message: Well, I live in city where cops have more important things to worry about. And if I do get pulled over I will laugh at the cop and tell him that while he is giving me a citation for a light lens, someone is probably getting raped and murdered. And then ask him which he thinks is more important. I have told a cop his gun sucks and that he should get a Glock, so if they are writing the ticket its a lost cause.
