Message: Ok ... here's a couple of questions for everyone.
1. Our Dak has the "chrome" grill package, and I want to put-in grill inserts ... but to me, that is going to be too much "chrome". Would love to paint the inserts to match the truck. Anyone done this ? Did it "show-up ok" ? Know of some good inserts fro this project ... street scene ?
2. Most importantly ... I want to get the bumper grill inserts in there. Street Scene says theirs will not work with the 2001 towing / heavy cooling package ... anyone tried it ? Anyone know of any other sets that WILL work with the extra cooling up front ?

Message: I have the street scene chrome grill inserts, upper and lower. I left the stock black inserts in place incase I sold the vehicle or I thought it might be to much chrome. I too have the chrome grill surround. It turned out looking good and I asked many people if it was to much chrome. They all liked it.
The lower inserts do fit. I have the 02 4.7 with the heavy duty towing package and the lower inserts are no problem at all.
I have the Patriot Blue color. I will post pics of the grill today (Monday) on the site shown below.

Message: Dragonhawk,
I have the grill pics posted at the site shown below. It was raining outside so I took the pics in the garage. They are kinda dark and the flash makes the chrome to bright. The truck is Patriot Blue but looks black. Looks much better in the sun.

Message: Very pretty you guys! I have been scouring the net and truck magazines for a grille that resembles the one on the SRT-10 Ram. I love the billet grille, but I like a minimum of cross bars, so that it is understated. All the grilles that I have found have far too many bars. I even thought of buying an SLT chrome grille off ebay and painting the frame black to match my truck.... but of course the horizontal pieces are black like mine. I've looked at the new rams up close, the horizontal pieces appear to be the same as the ones we have now, but chromed... Hmmm - if I could only get the bars in mine chromed it would be just right!

Message: Got my ram grill inserts out of the trash bin at a local customizing shop. They had them from installing billet inserts. You can also try a Ram forum on either dodgetalk.com or dodgetrucks.org, find a ram owner on there that is putting in billet or speed grill inserts. Maybe they will let you have the takeoffs.

Message: Handi2, I've seen some 15" and 17" american racing wheels for our Dakotas that look like those, but Von may have something nicer there.

Message: handi2 - thanks for posting the pics. Actually looks better than I thought it would ! hmmmm ... maybe I will do it with the chrome.
Our Dak is the lighter "Intense Blue" ... in your personal opinion, do you think that the speed grill would be noticable if I painted it to match the truck ... or do you think that it just wouldn't be noticable.

Message: Von Dutch,
Thanks for the info on the wheels. They look real nice.
Dragonhawk,
I went to your website and got a better look at your truck. Now this is just my opinion...I think the chrome uppers would look good. I think the bottom inserts would look better black b/c you have the chrome bumper. You can order them in brushed aluminium and paint them black yourself. I guess you could also order them chrome and if you thought it was to much chrome using the top and bottom you could paint the lower chrome ones with some preperation.
