Message: Cheezeit, The entire oil pan has great turbulance. The crank is constantly agitateing the oil. Gravity will always pull heavy particles to the lowest point even in a hydralic enviroment. When the engine is not running all of those heavy particles that make it past the filter and back to the pan will settle to the bottom. It does not take a minor in fluid dynamics to figure this out. This is why transmission pans usualy have a magnet in them. This is also why companys with billions of dollars or R&D choose to put the magnet in the drain plugs for the crank case, T/Case, and diff.'s. The real problem is that most American automotive corperations are too darn cheap to give you a magnetic drain plug, or true roller timeing chain, or a drain plug in your transmission or axle ass. The crank shaft can cause so much drag from contact with the oil that you can gain upwards of 50HP just from redesigning the bottom end to prevent this. So yes I would say that 50HP worth of agitation = great agitation/turbulance. Considering that OHV engines use splash oiling from crankshaft contacting the oil to lube the camshaft and other lower end parts I would say that this too should tell you how much turbulance is in the pan. While I do not specilize in lubrication systems I aprenticed as a Tech. and worked at dealer and corperate level. I then went back to school and have a degree in Aerospace Technology and Bussiness Management. So I am not talking out my rear. The burden of proof is on the one professing not the doubting Thomas. So where are the university studies, independent testing, ASE papers, articles in major trade journals???????? Their is always some gadget makeing claims. I am not saying that this device does not do what it claims to do. It might very well do everthing it claims to do. The evidence the use though is realy weak. Their is no way to know if the metal particles it traps are additional material being stopped by the magnet or the metarial that is already stopped by the filter being heald to the inside of the canister by the magnet. You have to have a drain plug and it is hard to forget to install it so protection with magnetic drain plug would be constant. If you forget to put on your add on magnetic stip then you have lost the protection it is supposed to provide. I just want more compelling proof.

Sandman is right in his earlier post ... A By-Pass filter (also known as an ultra fine oil filtration system) is far superior to an oil filter magnet; however, if the magnet makes you feel good when using it I say us it too.

Message: Dr. Who????? If you attach a magnet on your oil filter and it works....Aren't you happy? I would be....and I would be happy to see tiny metal particles on my magnetic oil drain plug too. At least they're not circulating around in my oil and creating friction in my engine......

Message: Well Said Mr. "Enough Said". A magnet on your oil filter and a magnetic oil drain plug in your oil pan means fewer friction-causing metal particles in your engine oil. Makes sense folks.

Oil Filter Magnets are a waste of time and money on a vehicle.
The AMSOIL By-Pass Filtration System (a.k.a. an Ultra Fine Oil Filtration System) will trap particles as small as 1/10 of one micron and, it will even trap those wear causing particles that are non-ferrous (Dirt, Aluminum, Bronze, Brass, Copper, etc.)
Plus the AMSOIL By-Pass Filter has the ability to absorb and hold water.
Do that with you "Fagnet" Mr. Enough Said !

Message: Hey!!
I have an idea, why don't we just make the whole engine out of magnet maybe that way we just keep the particles from leaving their original place. There is only one down side to that, there would be more accidents of people raming into traffic poles and other cars of opposite polarity,ja,ja,ja.

Message: It's always fun to see these dudes who don't believe something as simple as a magnet attached to an oil filter actually can trap metal particles. Hey, for what it's worth, buy one and try it. What have you got to lose? If it works, and I'm pretty sure they do, then you can be one of dudes who can laugh at the Dr. Whos???

I use to at least read his posts, I think now that he has shown his true colors (purple) that I will ignore him.

Message: Guys Have you checked out bypass filtration? Their are alot of companys that offer systems. I am partial to Amsoils system due to ease of use and mounting. It is designed so that a DIY'er can install it and it is sized to fit most non-comerial vechiles. Their are alot of systems out their and some are even better then Amsoils if you have a Peter and can mount a filter system the size of a fire extengisher(sp). When you look at what this system will catch it makes most other gadgets seem silly. Just take a look at the system. Luckily my rice burner has a magnetic drain plug in everything that holds petrolem fluids! The Dodge will ge getting a magnetic drain plug soon.

Message: Just Checkin in,
I have an oil bypass system on my big rig and I also use a big magnet on my oil filter....They both work good for me....The big magnet is a hell of lot cheaper than my oil bypass system was and I enjoy cutting open my oil filters from time to time....The big magnet works, take my word for it.
