Not exactly the Dakota... but the 4.7L V8 hemi was in the top10 of WARDS AUTO BEST NEW ENGINES when it was first intoduced.

I have been following the 4.7L V8 and its lopped-off sibling the 3.7L V6. This engine line has been very reliable since its introduciton in 1999.

I have read of a very few problems with the mechanical design of these engines.

Whoops, I made an innocent mistake. Don't start slamming my snowmobiles. I only ride Arctic Cates which are American made if that is what you were referring to with your reference, not sure what you meant.

Bill & Nospam,
I'm just geting to 12,000 miles and no problems with anything. [I've had it almost 18 months].
Now, it I could only figure how to get 25 mpg and use all the hp/tq of my QC's 5.9,... Any ideas?
With about 1 mile to work, it hardly gets warmed up, so 8-10 mpg is as good as my normal in-town mpg gets [longer will get 10-12]. Trip averages about 16-17 with the best [inc. coasting down hills] of 19.
I've installed an AitAid cold air induction system, TB spacer [or paperweight, according to some] and 3" catback. Next will be an M1 intake. Any other suggestions for more power/mpg improvement?,...D

Doc: Install a large foam rubber block beneath your gas pedal. This will make the pedal harder to press down thus lowering the amount you actually press down. I've considered using a rock to get 2MPG better in my 4.7 :)

D-X,
Already installed! I've resigned myself to bad gas mileage, regardless of what I try. I know I could go to the new computer, but that requires high test, and that was one of the reasons I got rid of my last car-'76 XJS Jag with 383 Chev power. Aside from the standard Jag repair costs, it cost too much to get from point a to b. [Although it was incredibly fun getting there!!]. Ah well, I'll install a toneau and later the M1 and probably leave it at that, unless I find some spanking good [inexpensive] adder after that. Thanks, all,...D
