Subject: Torque Managment / Traction Control IP: Logged
Message: I was reading on another forum about how some of the 2001 and up trucks may have some kind of traction control. This "traction control" is built into the computer and we can't turn it on or off. It supposedly controls the engine timming so the tires don't spin. You would think Dodge would make this an option or at least allow you to turn it off.
Has anyone else heard about this?

Message: you can get traction control on a full size Chevy pickup - only if you get the automatic transmission though...

Message: even most cars with traction control can be defeated/diabled with a switch! This would be great with an empty truck but when towing or hualing heavy loads I doubt that it would be effective. I like how Range Rover has used the abs sytem for a hill decent mode to keep the vechile under 5 mph when desending a steep hill with out locking the wheels. You just push the botton and instantly you have a sytem to simulate engine brakeing decent.

Message: What it supposedly is is not something that senses wheel spin and uses the braking to controll it, but something that backs the timing off just before the shift to lessen the strain on the transmission. I haven't heard all the details on this yet, but it may apply to all models, but supposedly with the MP PCM it is less pronounced or non-existant. The other tuners that make PCM flashes for the 2001 and 2002 are working on getting rid of it but haven't yet. So calling it traction control is misleading.

Message: So I guess some of the Dakotas have it I sure hope they hurry up and build a PCM for the 2001 and up models to turn this function off. I could not figure out why this truck would not lay rubber when it has just as much power as other cars that can.
