Subject: Pulsing Brakes IP: Logged
Message: Hi. I've been lurking for a day or so and thought I could pose a question to you all. I bought my wife a 98 Dakota Club Cab 4x4 with 38,000m and rear ABS. With any amount of pedal pressure the brakes pulsate but the truck stops smooth. Is this normal? The Mustang I race has 4 wheel ABS and even going into turn 1 at SIR at 110mph in the rain I haven't felt this.
Also I ordered the Rancho 17000 self adjusting shocks to go on it this weekend. Are these any good? Or did I make a mistake?
Thanks for your insight.

Message: Typically you can feel a pulsation when the rotors are warped. They can be turned smooth and flat if they are still thick enough. I can't imagine on light braking that you're reaching impending lock-up and therefore engaging the ABS. If you were, you'd notice a rapid pulsation, almost a buzzing, and you may also hear the valves shuttling in the engine compartment. Check the front rotors.

Message: Hey thanks for the response. That's what I was suspecting but having never driven the newer trucks with ABS, my other truck is a lifted '76, and my Mustang has all solid aluminum bushings and steel bearings, so I had nothing to really compare. I just wanted to check.
I'm enjoying the truck and it's automatic tranny in traffic otherwise.
Thanks.
