Subject: Speedo calibration...

Howdy! I've just gotten myself some stock 16" wheels with 31" tires to replace my 15" steelies, and I was wondering how to re-calibrate the speedo to reflect the increased diameter. On some of my past vehicles I know it was as simple as changing the speedo cable drive gear, but I know absolutely nothing about the set-up on the Dak. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Take it to any dodge dealer they use a OBDII tester and they scroll down to the tire size you have, and the computer sends a signal to the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) to calibrate it. Most Dodge Dealers do it for free, I think its under federal law.

What amberfire said is true, with one addition, and that is ONLY IF the new overall diameter of your tires matches the overall diameter of one of the diameters of the wheels featured on a Dakota. In other words, if the diameter of your new rims/tires matches the 15x7, 16x8 or 17x9 rims that Dodge sells with Dakotas (with the suggested wheel sizes) then they can easily plug in the new setting. If NOT...you will have to have it recalibrated another way, or possibly from another source.

Current mods: A MUFFLER. That's it. (For now.)
Future mods: Tonneau cover
Underdrive pulleys
Removal of clutch fan
K&N FIPK
17" rims
And much, much more...

Rim size shouldnt matter as long as the tire size would match one of the "presets"

There virtually no difference in the stock tire diameters. Any dakota rim with a stock tire is about 28" diameter.
