Message: I just went to that site and read the buzz. That is the dumbest excuse I have ever heard for getting rid of a vehicle. First off, it would be hard for me to believe that that many more people buy durangos than they do dakotas to warrant precedence for what durango owners want. Also, why don't they just come out with a fullsize suv. If they do away with the dakota line then I think they will be shooting themselves in the foot especially since all the other manufacturers have two sizes of trucks. If they do go to a compact then they will be no different than anybody else. I thought that's what they were, Dodge Different! If all they are gonna give me to choose from is that new buttasz ugly ram, I guess I'll have to go elsewhere. I hate to say that but one of the things I liked so much about the dakota is that I don't feel like I'm driving a tank around. I truly hope the buzz is just a plow to throw off the competition.

Don't believe it until you see it. Chrysler Times hasn't mentioned anything about canceling the Dak. My dad didn't hear anything about it from the engineers either.

Message: IF anything they are probably just going to milk the current sheetmetal for a few more modle years!!! SUV have a greater profit margin then pickup trucks. The truck market is the most loyal automotive segment. The SUV market is second least loyal market. My wife and I bought a Dak QC because it cost about $10,000 less then a Durango and at the time we were a family of three. Now that we are a family of five it still fits. It does not cost DC much more to make a Durango then it does a DAK but the profit margin is much greater on the Durango! So if they want to keep buyers and attract new ones to their SUV they have to mix it up much more often. Truck buyer's will buy the same body style for a much longer time then any other segment. Maybe DC can take the money they save from redesigning the sheet metal and give us better brakes and some head rests up front!!!! THe hemi would be nice as well.GM is growing the S-10 to Dak dimensions and Toy has talked about growing the Tacoma. It would not make sense for DC to shrink when everyone else is growing!

Message: I know GM has a midsize coming out. There are pictures of it. It's built on the trailblazer platform. Durangos must be really overpriced where you are located because there is only about 3k difference between them and the quadcab 4x4's on the sticker here. Maybe not even that much.

Message: I have a hard time believing that since there's just so damn many Dakotas around that they can't be hard sellers. The QC Daks are becoming almost like SUVs. In the first two months of 2002 Dodge packed out over 18,000 Dakotas. That's about 4300 more Dakotas than Toyota made Tundras.

Message: That's good news! They were going to ruin the Dakota. Just because there is no next Dakota (yet) doesn't mean they won't continue to make the current Dakota. Although Unless the 5.7 hemi is a easy bolt in to the current Dakota, I doubt we will see a hemi Dakota any time in the next 3 or 4 years. They are not going to drop a smaller the full size truck as compact or mid size trucks make up a huge market, of which the Dakota has a good share. This is good news to me, every redesign the Dakota kept putting on more and more weight, it was really going to need a 5.7 hemi with the redesign to be able to beat the current lineup. Now maybe they can actually make it a little lighter, and do a HO 4.7 and maybe find a 5-speed strong enough put behind it. Ultimately it could be just as quick as the proposed, big, 5.7 hemi Dakota, but cost much less. If they decide to pull the pug on a midsize all together, at least it will push the resale of our trucks up as there will still be the demand for them!

Message: As a Chrysler employee and a dakota fan, this has to be The Dumbest F**king decision made by DCX yet. All you have to due is drive the dakota and drive the competiton, big or small and you will see it's the best truck on the road, except for the few power wagon's which remain. Don't look for the 5.7 to appear on The AN platform either, they can't even get the 4.7 HO in it.

Message: My QC stickered at $29,000 and I got them down to $25,000. A similarly equiped Durango was stickered at 36,000 and they would not budge on price. They had three Dak QC and they had been on the lot all winter. The were hungry to sell them. In my town the hot sellers are Fullsize two wheel drive Ram, 4x4 Durango, Town & Country or what ever their top of the line minivan is? The Dakotas are slow seller and they mostly sell two wheel drive standard cabs in Dak's. The full size car and the Neon are realy slow sellers in my city!

I think your're right. Now if they would just get smart and bring back the Gen2 size and styling, but with a decade newer technology inside, they would be unique in the market and have a winner. (Where do I sign up???)

I'll take 2 of them! One 2x4 short bed std cab with a manual 5 speed and a small engine, and One 4x4 std cab with a 4.0L v-6 and a long bed. Anyone else?

Message: Power Wagon,
I used to have a Red Power wagon in the middle 70's. It was a great truck and that was before they were called 4x4's. It had the 318 and one time I pulled a house with it. Only about a mile down the road. After the house was jacked up and set on the trailer beams the regular house pulling type truck kept getting stuck. It had the 3 on a tree and the 4wd shifter on the floor.

Message: Well, good I think! I'd rather see them keep the current body style and maybe add more power to it. A little less weight would be nice, but not needed. Hey, what can I say, I like a -solid- truck. :0)
Personally, if they were going to make the next-gen Dakota look like the new RAM, I'd be upset. There is something about the new RAM styling that I don't like, compared to the old style. Not sure what it is though...
