Subject: check engine code #52 HELP! IP: Logged
Message: Hey all,
I have a '97 dakota sport that is running very badly- misfiring and losing power.
The code reads: "A rich air/fuel mixture has been indicated by an abnormally lean correction factor"
Does anyone know where I should start looking? Thanks a lot for the help- i need it.

Message: Okay- the problem went away- for now anyways. My check engine light is still on though.
I replaced the plugs and cleaned cap/rotor. Truck ran better- but still ran rough.
Tonight: replaced cap and rotor, seems to idle much better.
Next step if nothing improves: Fuel filter
Let me know what u guys think, thanks everyone,

Message: Well I figured out the filter is in the tank so that kinda eliminates doing that, for right now anyways.
Any other ideas whats up with this thing?

would the Oxygen sensor cause it, I think it is part of the circuit in determining air/fuel ?

I couldnt even make it up a hill yesterday the truck was running so bad, had to back down it and finally i got it up to 10 mph, bucking the whole way up the hill. This is how it was running yesterday.
Thank u for the reply.

O2 Sensor Replacement:
The O2 sensor(s) on your vehicle are designed to sense Oxygen in the exhaust stream. When they sense too much "air", they richen up the mixture and when the don't sense enough "air", they lean out the fuel mixture. Under normal conditions, they should last you 60-80K miles. However, we all drive in varying traffic conditions so the life of the O2 sensor is diminished. We recommend that you change the O2 sensor(s) every 60K miles to keep your engine running in optimal condition. (This includes the regular service intervals and tune-up schedules.)
