Subject: Stick jumped out of 2nd Gear!? IP: Logged
Message: I have 3.92 Gears and a V8 so I use 2nd to start off from a stop. Most cars if the revs aren't high enough, the engine will bog, stall, etc. When I first got the truck it popped out of gear when the revs were too low. Nothing very harsh just popped out with no noise or anything. Today it popped out real harsh, no grinding but it didn't sound good. Has anyone else had this happen?? I am sure this is not good for the 2nd gear and guess not the synchro either. I don't think I need to take the truck in, but I just want to know if this is normal. Thanks for any info.

Message: My truck did that few times. Then one day one I was on a very long washboard road it kept on doing it. I knew that it didnt seem good because this was only 4000 miles on the truck. Unfortunately it did it one more time and I couldnt get the transmission back in gear. I had to get pulled out by a truck full of mexicans to the nearest gas station. Towed it to the dealer and they almost didnt fix it under warrant but they did. Said that they would do it again. Truck was down for a long time but they put a new transmission in it. And its never done that since then. So my recommendation is be careful and make sure it doesnt keep doing it. Sorry for being so long, just trying to share my experiences.

Message: Mine did the exact same thing. It would stay in gear if you took off in 1st and shifted it to 2nd on the fly - but if you stopped and tried to take off in 2nd it would pop out of gear. When I took it to my dealer they kept the truck overnight and said there was nothing wrong with it. I made the service manager sit in the truck and put it into 2nd and take off. He held onto the shifter as hard as he could and couldn't keep it from jumping out. They replaced the transmission then. So far - so good.

Message: Well, I know why mine did it, so I doubt its a tranny malfunction, more of a safeguard. If it happened under steady driving I would be concerned. This was just do to the rpm/speed. Makes sense but still kind of weird. I have a 7 yr powertrain warranty so we'll see how it goes, but I might go in for a look see. The tailgate requires a good slam to close, so that may be worth investigating. Anyone had problems with that?? Thanks list, I appreciate it.Grady

Message: Yeah my tailgate sucks to. It goes up no problem but if you don't slam it hard it will fall down when you drive.
