Hi All,
Love this board. Lot's of usefull information here. Glad to be amongst V8 lovers.
I just purchased (3 days ago) a 4.7 Quad with 5 speed, 3.55, and 4X4. What a truck. I have a couple of questions though:
1. Is Z tube a brand name, or a generic name for any CA system. Is the K&N the best?
2. My motor (with all of 259 miles) seems to rev easy, but is very slow to de-rev. When I blip the throttle it takes a second or two to return to idle. Is that normal?
3. What oil pressure should these guys run at under load? At any rpm above idle, my oil pressure gauge is pegged at the maximum setting on the gauge. Not pegged, but right against the right most line. Is this normal?
4. What's my redline?

to answer your ? One I think its a brand name K&n is a very fine unit, two its normal, three is also normal, four it is the part of the tach that changes to red the very first part right where it changes to red try and avoid going into this area of the rpm gauge, it does have a little bit of a buffer zone built into it but dont chance it

You have the infamous tach with no yellow/red on it, don't you? If I remember correctly, redline on the 4.7 is in the neighborhood of 5400, but don't go near it until your engine has had a chance to break in.

About the oil pressure. I don't know if you have the one with numbers or not, but at cold it should be no higher than about 70 psi at idle. When you going down the road, pending on what kink of tranny you have, it should be at around 30-40 psi at 30 or 35 psi.

(1) Z-Tube is the product name from Intense Performnace (http://www.intenseperformance.com)
(2) Normal. The IAC controls the idle so "blipping" the throttle will give you that response.
(3) That would depend on what RPM and how much of a load, but the average is 50-70PSI
(4) You don't have a "Redline" marker on your Tach? (Wierd)

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I have no redline on my tach!!! I was curious what the max rpm's were for the 4.7. I guess from the documentation it's around 5500. The oil pressure gauge has no numbers just the L H. What's strange is that the gauge reads about half way up at idle, and then goes all the way to H at anything more then idle. It nevers goes past the line, just stays on H. I'm used to pressure rising slightly when you step on the go pedal. Just curious if anyone else has seen this.

I have the same engine you have and mine reads at about 3/4 of the gauge at all times. 99% sure that yur oil psi is fine every truck will read diff. do to the psi sending unit none of them are the same.

My oil pressure always reads on the high side of the gauge also, always has since I have owned it.

Mine does all the things you describe, and it it normal. Redline is 5500 rpm.

A test for redline:
Push gas pedal in low gear till you see blue smoke, mark your gauge, buy new engine, now you know. :)

The beauty of a V-8 is you don't have to go above 3K RPM's if you don't want to. And can still waste Toyotas. If you are really concerned about the oil level, just check it. Factories have occasionaly made mistakes in production. :) Enjoy your truck, I love mine.
