Subject: Engine rattle under med - hard accel? IP: Logged
Message: I have a n '01 QC 4.7 auto 4x4 with 13K miles. I have noticed that when I accelerate med - hard (3K - 4K rpms) I notice a rattle noise that sounds like it is coming from the engine. I took it to the dealer once and they could not duplicate the problem. They suggested that I switch to a different fuel. I switched from Amoco 87 to 89 octane and the rattle was less persistant. Did anyone else experience this type of problem?
Any help would be appreicated.

Message: I've experienced the same problem on my 2002 4.7l. The dealer replaced the lifters, but that didn't help any. I have noticed some improvement by switching from Mobil 87 to a local gas station's 87. I've heard that mobil uses a lot of (methanol?) in their gas. I guess we'll see if the change over from winter gas also helps...

Message: A lot of the northern states have "winter" gas. Given how cold it gets, this gas is supposed to burn cleaner...even in an engine that hasn't warmed up. Don't ask what is different, I just know that Colorado is one of the states that definitely does this.

Message: Folks thats called pinging and it can be determental to your engine. I think there is a TSB out on the 4.7s for this check with your dealers.
