Message: Is anyone registerd with the Dakota Quad Cab Owners Group? http://www.dqcog.com
I've perused the BB on it and I don't really see why I need to join for $40 a year when I can get everything(for the most part) on this board?
Is it worth it? Does the registerd user actually get more/better info?
Just curious.....

Message: I had asked one of the owners a couple of questions and he got back to me with pretty good answers so I kind of felt obligated to join. Then I read all the promises of posts to come, about performance, spreadsheets, etc. I thought I was making a wise decision, but so far I have been very disappointed. Very few people write in, the webmaster hasn't posted any useful info for a long time, (2 months). There was more posts about the olympics than a DQC. I am kind of sorry I spent the $40.

Message: The site is specific to quads, and fairly new, hence the smaller number of posts. The web page has been updated at least 7 times since January 1, and it started up the first of November 2001. The webmaster's apparent objective is to keep the site relatively free of advertising. I think this might limit some of the product biases I've seen on other boards. The members fee is to offset the upkeep of the main website of which the free forum is a small part. I'm a member, and I think it's a good deal for me. Of course I'm also a quad enthusaist. To each his own!

Message: No, I'm not Nick, but I do appreciate what the DQCOG has managed to do, with just a handful of contributors, in such a short time. I I also enjoy cruising several other MOPAR and Dakota sites and I enjoy being able to get answers to my questions virtually free of charge. I just happen to think that my membership was worth it, to me anyway. BTW, spelling don't matter, I think you got your message across.. :)

Message: Actually when it was beginning I found it 1st and was very interested. At the time they had a rule that no URL's could be posted. I thought that was ridiculous.
One guy posted a note about a technical service bulletin, included the URL, and it was promptly deleted by the administrator. When I voiced my opinion about that, I was banned from site. Thank God! It saved me from wasting $$ and time.

Message: DQCOG is rather intensley moderated. The rules clearly state that only members can post URLS, and even then, they may be edited if they point to a commercial site or other objectionable material. That is supposed to keep out those that might take commercial advantage of the free forum area, but, unfortunately, may keep some valid information from being passed along. I have seen the site traffic grow considerably since first finding it in October of last year. I usually get an answer fairly quickly.
The site definitely has a more civilized tone than some. As for member backing, I would guess that most quad owners are family oriented, like me, and don't have a lot of extra time to surf (tonight is the exception for me). That, and the fact that it's a site dedicated to the quad specifically may explain the lesser amount of traffic. I'm just glad I have another place to go to have my say.
I have to say that this site is great, and it's where I spend a lot of my time just because of the incredible volume and variety of postings. It's just fun to see what others are doing with their rides!

Message: Well I would like to say one thing about that site. I found it a long time ago a long time way befor membership fees were talked about and there were no members at all. Being President of a National Dakota Club I try to keep up with all dakota related things. I didn't own a quad at the time and I tried to e-mail NICK about 20 times to invite him and his members to events and meets and to just share information I had I thought would help him. Then after I got my Quad I tried to join and I was not permitted to. I guess he didn't want me to steal members who knows. I have just tried and tried to share information with them and invite them to just hang out and attent meets and I have still not one time got one e-mail from NICK or the webmaster. I am sorry but I think he is just a elitist and thinks other sites and clubs are not worthy his time. I just don't like people that have a truck and have to exclude others from their site just because they don't have a particular trim package or extra 2 doors. Why don't we just all get sites. We could have the DRCC (Dakota Regular Cab Club), DCCC (Dakota Club Cab Club), DRCSC (Dakota Regular Cab Sport Club), etc. I mean a Dakota is a Dakota no mater what kind you have and it is better to have input from all owners Thats just how I feel.

Message: The software is WAY better than this board. I sure wish this place would upgrade to UBB or VBullentin software
However www.dodgedakotas.com is going to draw in more traffic just due to the URL.

Message: I think membership price to performance on a forum like this is a lot more effective than the DQCOG. Nothing personal, but at this time, I just cannot see getting my money's worth out of that forum. I think the exclusiveness of that group makes it a hard sell, and the fact that it isn't as well-known as some of the other Dodge/Mopar groups hurts it as well.
The Durango Owners Club & this forum have proven their value & earned a member. The Dodge Dakota Quad Cab group on groups.yahoo.com has earned a member because it is free. The DQCOG does not "sell" me anything that I cannot get from my current "hang-outs."
Just my two cents...

I should say so! (You can leave out the rather) All that does is greatly reduce the effectiveness of the site.
Glad I found this site, it's been a very informative site. More than 9 out of 10 posts are purposeful. I'd rather pass over a few uninformed posts and be able to get useful information.
Thanks to all who contribute to this site!

Message: Thanks all for the info.
I wasn't sure about the site and thought that perhaps it might be my own bias about it, but from what you all say, in general, it is not worth the money.
Besides, I sort of like the way this site is broken up into seperate forums.
Thanks again.

Message: I joined the site. Payed the dues. Posted a couple questions. Got 1 answer a month later.
I haven't been back in a while but whenever I do there's really nothing new as far as post's or information. It was a waste of money.
I joined this site b/c of the wealth of information and the fun. I also have made donations and will donate again.

Message: Hey Marks DQC. I'm the guy who posted the TSB URL. That is too funny that someone else remembers that. Needless to say I went back and forth with Nick on a few emails. The end result was you had to request permission in advance, wait for their response and then post any URL. And Quadster, this was before they had "paid membership". At that time all you did was send an email and they gave you a password. I think the rules were the same it just seemed like a lot of effort to help fellow "Quadsters" out. I too, thought about being one of the first members or whatever that little promo with stickers, special member number and stuff gave you but based on content passed. I go back there from time to time and smile that I saved $40. I also wondered if I was missing something so I'm glad to see this post! I've lurked this site ever since and also am ready to join based off the excellent information and interaction. I wouldn't mind seeing a sub-segment in the open forum for quads just because they seem to have some unique challenges. I also understand that would become difficult from an organization stand point, (do you then have new performance, audio, off road etc.. for the quad) So I'll be content to use the search feature and include quad for the time. Sorry about the long post.

Message: I found the DQCOG web site before this site. At the time I thought it great until I found this Dodge Dakota Site. The DQCOG site has very little activity, it never seems to change. If you post somthing on the DQCOG message board it takes a long time to get a response if you get one at all.
5 months ago I found a very helpfull hint on this Dodge Dakota site about a better and cleaner way to change the oil on a Dakota Quad 4.7.
I decided to pass this information onto other Dakota owners by posting this suggestion on the DQCOG message board. My post was not even on the board a full day and then it disapered. I posted it again and the same thing happened. I went to another area of the DQCOG board and posted it and it to disapered. I put out a post asking why my post kept getting pulled of the site and that I was only trying to pass on some usefull imformation. I never got a response and ended up being locked out of the DQCOG message board. I stopped visiting the board regularly. About a month or so ago I decided to check out the DQCOG site and low and behold MR. NICK had a segment on his site about a better way to change your oil on a 4.7. Boy what a nice guy NICK is to pass on this imformation. Well I guess some people like to take all the credit. K--- M- A-- Nick !
