Message: OK it late and I've been working on school crap for a few hours now, so bear with me.
As we all know when the AC is on it robs power from the engine. And i personally almost never run it full blast anyway so what if some of that ultra-cold air was ducted to the intake manifold? would not this function similarly to an intercooler? would this not recoup some of the lost power from the compressor running? Or what if you could send all the air from the compressor there for racing ect. would the gains overcome the drag caused by the compressor? Would it even be worth it. Just thought about it while i was messing with my new fan controller that i still can't get tuned exactly right

Message: I think I heard somewhere that someone tried this, I don't remember who though, but they got it to work. Wish I had more info, but my brain is flooded with school and work too....

Message: By the time you route all the hoses, valves & switches, you could mount a nitrous kit for the same effort and money. And it will be more effective.

Message: I Have thought of the same question , several times actually. I don't know anyone that has done it, But something just tells me that the cold Air gains would be offset by the compressor load. I guess one would have to know, the HP load the compressor pulls and the HP gains for each drop in temp.
Another idea I thought of was to use Pelter Junction devices. Metal plates that when current is appplied get really cold on one side and hot on another. Seems like you could stack a really nice heat sink on one side ( the hot side) Sheild that from the cold side and mount the cold side in the intake path, Its electronic so there would be no real load and you would have the air cooled down as it comes in the intake. Of course the plates you would need would have to be kinda large and those are not cheap.
IF anyone wants to try this, send me the Money and I will do it, I am nuts I know!

Message: I've done work with peltiers. There is too much air moving for peliers to cool it effectively, plus you'd have to have a water pump to cool them (they get quite hot). Also the alternator load would futher offset any gains.
They are kinda fun to play with, overclockers were using them to tweak up thier systems until CPUs started using too much power for the peltier to be able to move. It started to take a high end peltier to get equal temps to a standard HSF, and then it raised the case temp and required a massive HSF. (though we do use a 470W liquid chiller on a cal system here at work)
The vapor phase method (A/C compressor/evaporater/condensor) would be more efficient at cooling the volume needed to see some gains.
