Message: If it is stock and not the "blue block 400" then they aren't that fast. 75 shot of NOS should do it.

Message: I used to have a 79 T/A with the 6.6 and 4 speed. Neat toy! But the 69 Charger R/T with the 440 that I bought new would have blown the doors off of it. Of course a Hemi-cuda would take it and not break a sweat. BUT, if ya wanna play with him with your Dak, pick a crooked road. The Trans ams are uni-body and the weight of the engine is all the traction the frontend has. Most Trans ams have usually right front body damage cause the darn things won't turn at speed. Give it a try.

Message: I had one of those...... a 6.6 TA with an automatic trans. It went 15.80s on a good day. Of course over the course of the last 23 years... something could have been done to improve that one.

Message: Blue block was a pontiac engine. It made 220 hp that year and the olds 403 made 185 hp. They are not that light of a car as well. Usualy over geared 3.0 or lower. Like I say assuming it is stock. Gears and all.

Message: whoo i thought it would definalty have more than 185 hp. When i get to drive it, it just seams wickidly fast. then again i think he put pete jackson gears in it. Other than that it has been a great car over 450,000 kms with no probs. any ideas on the 0-60 thats where it seems to be the fastest.

Message: For cars, between '75 and '85 everything pretty much sucked in every way (didn't matter what make, what model, or where it was made). For trucks, delay that by three years. They were heavy, gutless, and often ugly. At one point during that time 210HP was the top engine in the Corvette. It'd make a Dakota vs. Vette race become close.

Message: heres some cheap advice, your dak won't beet it. and definetely don't shoot nitro in a stock motor unless you want some costly repairs. ie. burned valve edges-seats, busted vlv. springs, and worst of all but probably over-rev and spining the crank or bearigs out of the journals.

Message: I was talkin to a mechanic and he told me that those '79 T/A 403s acutally but out a lot more HP than stated. They keep the number low because of governement regulations. Any truth to this?

Message: The fastest production thing in 1979 was a Dodge Truck, the little red express truck with a 360. It wasn't as fast as the current 360 Dakota because of weight of the full size truck it was based on. That said I'd say a stock 4.7 5-speed or R/T will take a stock 79 anything. 79 was pretty much the pit of performance. Now if you uncle has ditched the incredible maze of emission equipment found on a 79 and went with parts for the late 60's then you'd be in trouble. This is one reason the Little Red Express could be built quick with a small block was because there were so few emission requierments for trucks in 79 then cars of the same year.
