hey my stock air filter on my truck is really dirty and has some oil and grease in it, i wanted to replace it anyway but my friend just told me that if theres oil in the air filter it may be a big problem and i might have to get the engine rebuilt. i was just wondering if i could just replace it or if my friend is right and i have to do some serious stuff. ANY input would be very appreciated. thank you very much

SOME oil is normal. Oil fumes are sucked in via the PCV valve and burned, but in the process of going thru the air cleaner housing some of it deposits in the filter or on the inside of the air cleaner, PCV stabds fir Positive Crankcase Ventilation system.

It is your PCV system. Just like the other post's.
The PCV system is your engines vacuum cleaner. It is very important to change your PCV valve. There cheap..!

You probably have an oil leak somewhere, probably on the outside, not the inside. This creates a grimy, oily, greasy engine environment. I have the same truck, and yes it gets oil and grease and grime on my air filter, but mainly on the outside of it. Dont worry about it. Change your PCV valve, and you might also consider changing your crankcase breather while you're at it. Try these and drive another 5,000 miles and watch if things improve.
