Man charged with smashing thousands of dollars' worth of garden items outside North Stafford Wal-Mart.

Police say a Stafford County man barreled through a Wal-Mart's garden section Tuesday night, causing $4,000 worth of damage and startling employees.

Sheriff Charles Jett said several employees were in the garden section outside the main store off Garrisonville Road about 9:20 p.m. when a 2001 Dodge Dakota plowed through the cinder-block walls and wooden poles surrounding the garden area.

The wayward truck smashed numerous plants, flowers, tools and shelves. Jett said nearly 90 items were damaged by the careening vehicle.

Debris was strewn all over the area when deputies arrived, but no one was injured.

"That's what everyone was most thankful about," Jett said. "Someone could have easily been seriously injured or killed."

The driver left the area after the rampage and was seen traveling on Mine Road toward Garrisonville Road. Deputies responding to the call did not immediately find him.

But someone had gotten the license number of the runaway truck. Police later apprehended Richard Wayne Flowers, 25, at his home on Spring Lake Drive in North Stafford.

Flowers was charged with driving while intoxicated, destruction of property and hit-and-run.

Jett said Flowers, whose vehicle was damaged, told police he left the area after the accident because he was scared.

See, now if it was an S-10 or a Tacoma, the story would have read more like...

"Man uspet that thousands of dollars' worth of garden items outside North Stafford Wal-Mart totaled his S-10 (Tacoma)." *LOL*

Maybe the dak just wanted some of that Mobil 1 that WalMart had on sale.
I can't stand going there. It is so busy, I'm always afraid that a crappy old mini van is going to park 2 inches away from me and ding my doors. I've been there twice in the last year, the last time, I came out of the store, and someone had left their shopping cart right up against my truck. What is it with that, it takes like one minute to put the carts away.

I bought my wife a 2000 grand cherokee 2 years ago as a replacement for her sunfire gt because we had a baby girl and needed the room. Well as unemployed mothers do they get together with other unemployed mothers and beat around town and such all day long while I work! (note to self, reincarnate as an unemployed housewife!) Anyways, as you can imagine the cherokee makes quite a few visits to wally world. Usually she gets it washed at a local detail shop here in town but the other day it was nice and I was off work so I decided to do it. OH MY GOD!!! It looks like somebody took a ball peen hammer and tried to make one of those multi-surfaced congadrums out of the entire side of the jeep! I about blew a gasket! I am one of those people who can't stand to see a scratch or dent get in my ride, I mean it drives me nuts! I park all the way against the guardrail here at our wally world just to keep away from other door slammers. Man I was so pissed! She wonders why I don't let her drive my truck!

I know what you mean. I went to wash my fiancee's car the other day, and it looks like she took a bucket of that tar they lay down on new asphalt roads and such, and painted the lower half of the car with it. This Saturday I've basically alloted about 2 to 3 hours for removing tar from her vehicle ONLY. When she drives my truck she hops in and sort of forgets it's not a Grand Am, and just mashes the pedal down and parallel parks and all like she's driving the Grand Am. I feel your pain Quadman. :)

Can anyone other than me quote what Dodge Dakota's rated amongst other trucks in Head on and Side Impact Collissions ? My cousin has... erm had a 2000 Dodge Dakota Regular Cab Sport... she was going down the freeway and was forced into standing water (meaning she tried to change lanes but there was someone next to her not letting her over)... so she hit the water and hydroplaned, spun backwards into the guard rail.. and it slung her back across the other way... and she was broad sided by a 18 wheeler going ~50-55 (she was sliding with traffic tho if that makes sense) and hit her right in the door. Besides being a little scratched up from a shattered drivers side window, she was fine. The truck held up amazing, although it was totalled... you could just see how the entire frame absorbed the impact and bent rather than just crunch... never thanked God that someone was driving a Dodge until that day...

An 18-wheeler? Daaarn...

I've been in one -minor- accident with my Dak that lifted the entire rear-end of the truck up off the ground and shoved the truck forward 40 feet. Needed a new bumper and touch up paint.

Other than that, I've had it airborne on the dirt parking lot here at school, and have had one wheel off the ground when doing a hill climb. Both times the truck felt rock soild (either on landing or with one wheel on the ground), -no- frame flex I noticed. We had an S10 once that would frame-flex going around a corner. :0)
