Subject: Honeymoon over? Leaks, loose mounts IP: Logged
Message: Well, it's been a week and now I'm nervous. My 4.7l 2001 qc sports plus 2wd auto "New car smell" wasn't getting better, so a quick peak underneath shows oil leaking from the area where the trans appears to bolt to the motor (right behind the drain plug area). Can't see where it's coming from, only that it ends up on the front of the trans casing. Any ideas?
Also, while poking around underneath, noticed two main motor mounts were not even hand tight. Nuts weren't even touching the frame! I tightened 'em down, but wonder what else was overlooked. Are there only the two motor mounts on the front left and right of the block? Are there others I should check, and could this have caused damage (450 miles). Yikes.

Message: Hi. It depends on how you drove your truck when the motor mounts were loose. If you do jackrabbit starts, it could have craked the bolts or mount, but if you took it easy, it shouldn't have done any damage. I would just take it to the dealer and have them check it out, since it should be under warranty. The oil leak, im not sure where it can come from on newer vehicles. But what the dealership might do is put some dye in the oil, and have you drive it for a day or two, then you take it back to the dealership, and they will use a black light to see exactly where the oil is leaking. Good luck!

Message: Magnums are famous for rear main seal leaks,
just a guess though.

Message: Brought it to the dealer today, and they are going to check "all" mounts and look for the leak. Even after tightening drain plug, still getting oil dripping down front of trans where it bolts to motor.
Thanks for the input
