Subject: Texas Drivers IP: Logged
Message: Now, before everybody from Texas gets mad at me, I am only posting this as a QUESTION!! I drove my Dak over 2700 miles last week over a 3 day period from Indiana to San Antonio and back. This was my first trip to Texas and I noticed something I never noticed up here. Down in Texas, it seemed as though 50-75% of the local drivers drove in the passing lane (left lane) all the time whether they were passing or not. Occassionally they would find themselves going the same speed as the person in the right lane, however, they would not speed up or slow down and block traffic behind them. Never have I seen people drive like this. I am not disrespecting any of you Texas guys on the site, I loved the state (especially Austin, I could live there!), I just want to know why it is that some people choose to drive this way down there? Thanks!
Bill

Message: Yeah Bill I've noticed that too...I HATE THAT!! Get over in the slow lane if your not goin to go fast damnit! I'm in Dallas and I go home alot up in N. Texas and it happens almost everytime. Some parts of the state post signs that say Unless passing stay in right lane or you'll be fined or somethin like that.

Message: I'm another Dallas/ Fort Worth gut and we sure do have tons of peeps that cruise at 65 to 70 (speed limit) in the left lane. Another thing is that, in Texas, semi trucks are allowed to drive in the left lane also. I find myself getting mad quite often.

Message: I have to agree that there are some boneheads on the roads here in Texas. People that stop on the on ramp to get onto the highwasy, people that go the speed limit in the left lane, and then there is the freakin rubberneckers!!! Rubberneckers are the pains in my a$$. Is seeing a wreck more important that causing one!?!?!?!? If you want to see a wreck watch World's Wildest Police Videos, if you wanna drive, keep your eyes on the freakin road!!!

Message: I definitely second (and third, and fourth) the sentiments here. Just THIS morning I almost rearended some jack@$$ simply because they said "Oooh look, a crash!" and slowed from like 55 to 35 in a second or two. There was NO obstruction of traffic AT ALL. I hate that with a passion!

Message: Around Sacramento is worse. That 50-75% becomes 70-95%. I have yet to make a single trip between my house and my work (and school before I graduated) w/o someone camping in the fast lane. And I used to work at a restraunt where I occasionally got off at 1AM. And there was STILL people camping in the fast lane. Now you'd think that in 6 years (on and a half of it was twice/day) that I might be able to get a single trip w/o a fast lane camper, but it's never happened.

I can assure you that not everybody drives like some of the boneheads in Texas. Being the first time for me down there, I noticed the difference right away. You do exactly what I did. I would ride their bumpers until they either sped up or got the hell out of my way!

Message: I lived all my life in Texas and can't understand why we put up signs saying "Left lane for passing only" when the police don't inforce it. The Texas polite way of getting someone to move over is to ride their ass with your lights and horn on. Then give them them 1 finger wave.
God Bless Texas

Message: Also a Texan here... I hate driving with the idiots, on 114, in the morning a SLIGHT CURVE IN THE ROAD backs up traffic EVERY MORNING!!!!!
As soon as you get through the curve, it speeds up again, people are idiots, the curve has been the same for years, yet the retards that drive it EVERY DAY STILL SLOW DOWN for it, and you can take the curve at 90+, yet they choose to do 45 and 50 around it...!!!!!AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Makes me want a massive brush gard to slam through people!

Message: OH GOD DAMN! lots of anger in here! damn old people ALWAYS drive slow. Here's another one: when people from the on ramp go all the way across when they see you coming up fast, so you have to jump on the brakes. Caution: this action usually results in severe tailgating!!! My sistter is a master at this, one time in a Ferd f-150 she was about 2 inches off an mr-2's butt, this guy whips into a parking lot, and stares at my sister, some funny stuff! the WORST part is when the sign: keep texas moving, slower traffic keep right, check your rearview mirror, comes up, i'm always behind a slow driver and THEY NEVER MOVE!!

Message: I think if those slow drivers could just get plowed off the road at least once they might consider staying in the slow lane.
Another one is those guys with their seats all the way reclined driving the cars with the rims turned inside out. What's the story there? It's not a parade, sit up and drive faster!

Message: kota: last few times I was in LA I had to comment on how GOOD the drivers were compared to Sacramento. Once you get past the yuppie boarder line traffic is much more well behaved, but there seems to be a strong correlation between "yuppie" and "numbnut".
Example: There's a grade where the third lane (truck lane) ends just over the top of the hill, it's been that way for over a decade. Yet during rushhour (which lasts more than half the day) some 30% of traffic uses it to cut around the truck that just merged into the normal lanes (because the truck lane _IS_ ending after all) and cut infront of as many people as possible, including the truck that is on the brakes because the mile 10-12% grade up is followed by a 100 yard 15% grade down. And traffic is always stopped. And there is no shoulder.

I almost rearended some old lady that was goin like 5 miles faster than the person she was passing. I just threw it in 4th and flew by her goin about 95 after she passed that person. I love making people feel dumb.

Message: OK OK, how about this... when there is an exit or entrance to a highway or some thing... and you turn into your own lane onto a road, yet the people in front of you stop anyways, and wait until traffic clears before they go, only to realize that all those signs showning you have your own lane ARE true! People like that really PI$$ me off cause they are the kind of people who cause traffic jams, and slow down to 10 whenever they see flashing lights on the highway... wreck or not. soryy, but this really makes me mad.
