Message: Does any one know of anyone dropping a cummins into a Dakota 4X4? I have a 3.9 and I hate it, but I love the truck. One day I would like to rip it out and dropp in a cummins but I dont know if it is possible and how much trouble is involoved. I also wonder if the 5 speed can handle the torque.

Message: NV-4500 HD. You are in for more work than you can imagine. That engine weighs like 1000lbs by its self. It is so tall that it won't fit under the hood. The front end would be destroyed right away from the exra weight. Have fun.

Message: As far as the cummins goes, expect to give your truck a nose job. Those engines are long and tall. As far as the trannies go, NV4500 and NV5600s are used. If you get a chance, crawl under a Ram and take a look at the NV5600. You will be humbled (it's friggin' huge!)

Message: Check out this link. They are putting a cummins into a dakota to try to beat the land speed record for a diesel. They've modified the firewall an pushed the dash back to fit the engine. They are going to be using the NV5600 six speed. So it can be done. :)

Message: I have been looking into the cummings to put into my 2000 Dekota I see there are a lot of negitave about puting a cummings in but IF you look up Ranger Cummings you will find a half a dozen Ford Rangers with that moter in them.
A Ranger it a much lighter duty truck then the Dekota with a smaller engine bay so if the B4 will fit into a Ranger stand to reason it will fit into a Dekota. Dont get me wrong might have to do some modifications but it will fit.

Message: the original post was talking about the 6b engine which is too big and heavy to fit without totally modifing the entire truck. The 4b can be done . With some mods to the engine, it should move out very well.

Message: Or you could use a 47 RE tranny if you like autos. Very stought transmission. A 48 RE just might work.
