Subject: transmission cooler IP: Logged
Message: I have an 01 QC with 3.9 auto 3:55. I tow a 1600 lb.boat and was going to install a transmission cooler. The dealer says Dakotas come already equipped with a cooler. In front of the rad is a smaller rad, so is this what he's talking about and if so, is this big enough to do the job? Dealer says this should be enough but didn't seem real sure. Also should I change the differential fluid to synthetic? I don't think towing 1600 lbs. should hurt the tranny but I want to be safe. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Message: I ran a second trans cooler in mine, similar to what it sounds like you have stock. After my trans went the cooler in the radiator was shot due to chunks of gear in the internal filter. The trans shop rerouted it all to go through the aftermarket axilary I had put it and said this would be more than enough to yeild good proformance. I would guess that you would be ok. If there is a doubt why not install a trans fluid temp gauge?

Message: Dave
Thanks for the info. A trans temp gauge would get rid of any doubt.
