Message: Hey fellas, longtime lurker, new poster. I have drooled over these quad cabs since they came out. Well the family's growing and I got the go ahead from the boss and I'm gonna order a new dak.
I don't want to start any wars, but let me know what options you think are good. I know that I want the quad cab 4x4 and I like the graphite with the slt's chrome. Other than that I am open to suggestions. Which v8 (again just give me your opinion and ignore other opinions). Bucket seats or bench? Tranny options, etc etc.
Also, what are you guys seeing around the country for pricing? My buddy just bought a Ram at about 25% below sticker. That sounds real good to me.
Thanks, I can't wait!

Message: Must have options in order:
1. 4.7 V8 (best Torque & HP vs. MGP)
Auto tranny (best towing & the wife can drive (only in an emergency, of course)).
2. Limited slip differential (especially if ordering 4x4)
3. Towing package (gets you larger brakes and tranny cooler if auto).
4. Wide mirrors (just gotta have em).
5. Leather buckets (better built seat, leather lasts longer & is easier to clean than cloth)
Of course tilt/cruise/ac go without say'n.
WARNING - when taking delivery of your new truck, take your time and inspect the paint carefully. Mine had several (7) paint flaws I missed when I hurried because of the rain. If I had seen them I would not have accepted the truck. I also just notice that the bottom of my rear bumper in not completely chromed. I'll be going back soon to get it fixed. One more thing to look for - my bed was not on the frame straight.
Even after all of that, I still like my truck. It runs and rides great.
As far as pricing, I could not get my purchase price below sticker minus a $2000 rebate Dodge was running at the time. I contacted 12 dealers in 5 states and got the same price each time. I ended up getting a local dealer to knock off another $300 before I finally bought.
Good luck.

Message: One thing to add to that (if it's not part of another package).....heavy duty service package. It basically adds a larger battery, alternator and provides "maximum cooling" for the engine (whatever that means). It costs like $120, and if you plan on doing a lot of towing or live somewhere where it gets REAL cold in the winter, it's a good thing to have.

Message: Some options to think about when ordering your truck, because it's nowhere near feasible to add these after the fact.
Steering Wheel Radio Controls
Overhead Computer (compass, fuel MPG, etc)
Heavy Duty Service Group (batt/alt/tranny cooler)
Light Group (extra bulbs in useful places)
3.92 Limited-Slip Differential
6x9 "Dumbo" heated mirrors (They look kinda goofy compared to sport mirrors, but I absolutely love the view)
FYI: Most dealerships will allow you to bundle in Mopar Performance parts along with your order and loan - ie: M1 2bbl Intake, etc.
The 4.7L is the more popular engine for the newer trucks, and appears to be the way that Dodge is headed as their primary V8 of choice. At this time, there's a lot more parts for the 5.9L, but this may flip-flop someday.
There's a lot of good info on the various Dakota websites... This is by far the best forums site. I have links to all the various sites plus a huge list of aftermarket parts on my site, maybe it'll give you some ideas for the future.

Message: Ok thanks fellas. Can I get leather in the front only? I guess I could just order cloth buckets then change 'em out.
lol SteveS that's exactly why I gotta get automatic. But like you said, only for emergencies :).

Message: I will be ordering my quad cab tomorrow. I just received a quote from 4 different dealers. Everyone offered invoice price. The only difference in dealers was the advertizing fees. I went with the cheapest one.
One thing that surprised me is that the price of the truck has gone up in the last few weeks. I recieved a quote in Feb. and several yesterday. The base price went up by a $100+ and the destination charge is now $615 instead of $585.
