Too bad I didn't expect this and my stock tyre was a bit taller than my snow tyres, damn. Had to get my dad to come with another tyre so I had two larger ones in the front and my smaller ones in the back -- talk about red neck. Also a good thing I don't have 4WD...

What size snows did you get? My snows are actually 1 inch taller then the factory (235/75/15 -vs- 255/55/17) seeing as how the 255/65/16 on you truck are 1 inch taller then factory 17's on mine you should have just got the 235/75/15's like I did, and you'd have a match. I suppose you wanted the good looking 16" rims all winter rather then the ulgy 93 steel 15" rims I picked up for $100!

Actually, I bought mine about 3 months used. The rims are alumninum 16" that are from the older Dakotas and they were all in great condition. Yeah, I know, but it was a good deal at the time and they cut me some price breaks, so I was happy. On all the other vehicles in my family the tyres are about an inch taller than the summer ones. Taller and thinner; what a snow type tyres usually are...

Those 16" Alumninum rims were about 30 dollars each and no dings or anything on them... even came with these cap things that cover the lug nuts.

Dude, you scored on 16" aluminum rims for $30 each!! Like I said I paid $25 each for crappy steel rims w/o any trim rings or center caps. They sound like aftermarket rims, as they only started using the 16" from the factory in 2001 and they are identical to the rims that came on your 2002. How wide are they, do you remember? The factory 16" rims go all day and night on ebay for $80-120 each, sometimes they will bring more then the 17" R/T rims!

I have no idea how wide they are really, I should, but I always forget. I can look tomorrow morning. I thought they were stock because I've seen other older Dakotas with them on, because they have that lug nut cover with the ram head. Those too were in alright condition and nothing broken or cracked!

Let me see if I can find one online...

and another!

Those are not 16's, they are the aluminum rims from 92-93. They should be 15x6.5. I was wondering where you would find the 16's that cheep when they have only been on the trucks for 2 years. Easy mistanke to make thinking Dakotas always got coll 16" rims, but back in 92 sadly there was not even aftermarket rims to replace those beautiful peices, I know cause I had a 93! $30 each is still a good price for those rims with centercaps, they would make great light weight front tires for drag racing.

Good find ! Local junkyard was trying to charge me $50 each for the steel wheels; I held out and scored the mags at a swap meet.

Hrm, I coulda sworn they were 16s, I can just measure them right?

These wheels with the rims are WAY lighter than the stock ones, I actually felt faster when I put them on, no joke, but I have no way of telling -- just felt that way, big difference, in a couple months I'll know when I take them off. It might have been because I didn't have my stock tyres on but 300-500 miles when it started snowing and I put these on, so maybe it broke in over the winter. Not bad lookin' rims for snow tyres, lol.

Just read the tire size off the side of the sidewall, there is no way to get a 16" tire on a 15" rim and have it actually hold air! I bet you have something like P235/75R15 on the side wall, that R15 means 15", your stock tires are 255/65R16's. The snow tires are usually a bit heavier then highway tires with greater tread, more bands inside, and a greater load rating. I weighed a 15" steel rim and snow tire and it still weighed 5 pounds less then the stock 17" rim and tire. Over 4 wheels thats 20 pounds of rotaing mass which is equal to 200 pounds of static mass. If the snows could get traction (which they can't) it would be good for .2 in the 1/4 mile, you think the tracks frown on studded tires?

That's what I was thinking once "how bad would they freak out at studs" lol. I noticed under heavy acceleration they slip a bit, but then again it's not what they were really designed for -- yes the surface was dry!

I didn't mean I had a 16" tyre, hehe. and yes, they ae P235/75R15s...

Know of any good track near by Hersbird, I only know of that 1/8 in Anaconda. The season starts in like May I think...

I can drive around with chains when it's clear as day if I was so inclined right now. I see other people doing it once in a while too, clear dry day, lol!
