 Subject: Left Tail light shorting out

My 2000 quad 4x4's driver side tail light keeps going out. Well, not out but shorting out. At random times while signaling left turns, the dash board signal indicator light flashes out of control. It wasn't until my wife was driving behind me one day that she told me my tail light was out. I realized that when the light on the dash went freaky, that it ment the tail light was out. So I changed the bulb. A few days later it did the same thing. So I replaced it again only this time I looked closer at the bulb; it wasn't burned out. I still happen to have the first bulb so I looked at it, it wasn't burned out either. I wiggled the bulb this time in the socket to see if it was loose, it wasn't. I do have a factory installed hitch with wiring harness plug. The guys at Uhaul couldn't get the plug to work right and they said it may have been wired wrong at the factory. Any ideas before I have it taken in for warranty repair?
