Subject: Will a 98RT exhaust fit in a 00 Sport CC IP: Logged
Message: my friend has a 98 RT and he is going to buy a new exhaust soon. I told him i would buy his stock RT muffler for 20 bucks and he agreed. i have a 2000 CC V6 and i was wondering if it would actually make a difference in sound and performance if i swapped my stock muffler for a 98 RT muffler? also should i ask him for just the muffler or for the muffler and his pipes or should i use my stock pipes. will there be any problems in making the swap fit? im hoping it will fit perfectly cuz you cant find a better deal for 20 bucks!

Message: Yes the R/T cat-back will fit your truck. The R/T has 2 hangers on the tail pipe and the other Dakota models only have 1 hanger.
I'm running a 3" Mopar Cat-Back on my truck which was designed for an R/T, I cut off the extra hanger. It's not really needed, you can probably do the same.

Message: The system could be bolted or welded up. I suggest you get new clamps if the old ones are in bad shape, there cheap. Other than that it should be very easy to put on.

Message: Take a good look at it - I doubt it will bolt right up. I looked at a 98 club cab exhaust trying to figure if I can cut down a club cab cat back exhaust to fit my 2000 regular cab and there were substantial differences. I'm still looking for 2000 club cab to check - I need to know if the pipe between the cat and the muffler is straight for about the first foot and a half. I think if you check this area you will see some differences between the '98 and 2000.

Message: Good luck to your friend if he can get it off without cutting it off. I changed my muffler to a DynoMax at 700 miles and had to cut my factory one off, the clamps had crimped the tubing so tight it was impossible to pull off. Wasted 4 hr. trying to save it :(

Message: I would say if your friend gets it off ok (and your only talking $20) I would take it and look the situation over with muffler & tailpipe in hand (or laying next to truck) if he has a RC R/T and you have a CC you are already short by about 12-16" I would guess. if you are in this range you can get a piece of 2.5 in & 2.5 out at AutoZone
SOUND: you will probably get a mild rumble out of the V6
PERFORMANCE: unless you have modified your intake "K&N,Airaid or other" you won't notice much maybe a little throttle response.
Also if you really want to wake your V6 up get you a V8 TB along with a good intake :) :)
