Message: I installed an optima blue top deep cycle marine battery (D34). It's a great battery and has plenty of CCA's. You will notice the engine turns over a lot better with the extra juice.
You can get a deep cycle yellow top at most auto parts stores that will just drop right in. Since your truck sits a lot, the deep cycle battery can take the discharge better and will last a lot longer than a standard starting battery.

Message: my batteries will usually only last me 2-3 years. the socal desert climate does that.
i currently only use a direct replacement type battery (as opposed to upgrading to an optima, etc), so i just look for whatever battery has the best/longest replacement warranty and prorated warranty.
but with my fairly recent sound upgrades in addition to my good 'ol cb, i might begin to think about an optima.
