Hello,

This might be off topic but I know you have the answer.

I want to use some switches that are rated 6A at 125VAC, in my car to run some neons.

Do I need to wire the switches in a certain way, use a resistor, or can I just hook up the neons to the switches w/out a problem?

Thanx,

Nick

How many amps do the neons take? If under 6 amps, the switch is fine. If more, you should use the switch to operate a relay that can handle higher amps. If the switch is double pole, 2 sets of contacts, you can use both sets in parallel and the rating is then 12 amps.

Be more specific about the neons, are these light kits you got at the store, or just bare neon bulbs? 12VDC won't turn on just a bare bulb, it takes electronics to boost the voltage to about 70 volts before it will turn on.

The neons are kits with transformers and all the parts needed to get the kit going (bought from e-bay). But I want to use different switches because the ones that come with the kit are hideous.

The switches are SPST (single pole, single throw)

The neons are rated at 6A@12VDC (is that normal rating?)

Hope that helps...
