I know how to take the dash apart, I need to know how to get the new template over the needles in the existing gauges. Also how to hook them up to the lights?

The gagues have the directions with them. It's not all that hard from what I read about them, I just need to get off my duff and do it. The same as with my e-fan.

The gauge faces really aren't that difficult to install. Tearing the dash apart takes about 30 seconds. Getting to the gauge cluster is just a couple of minutes after that.
Each gauge face kit should include a needle tool that helps slip off the needles with ease - if it doesn't, just use a butter knife or something to gently pull them away from the needles, they slip right off. The gauge face is technically just a big plastic sticker, use a knife or razor blade to pick up an edge and peel it off, then stick the new face on.
Complete instructions can be found on Chuck's Intense 99 Dakota site, they were really helpful when we did the Nu Image group guy.

has anyone un-installed the flame guages? im wondering if the glue on the back of the guages will still be good?
reason im asking is because, im thinking of selling mine

Just did mine. The hardest part was pulling the resting pins out of the old guages. My needles still are not lined up perfectly, and the MPH and RPM's are sort of jumping. It goes in stages instead of being smooth like it used to. And I can't see anywhere that it is rubbing. Oh well......... They look good, better in the pictures for sure.

flame guages for a 1996 dakota? I can find them
for later year models but not mine.

No you cannot take the guages off. I attempted that and ended up tearing the plastic. Oh well.
