WHY did DC choose this bolt pattern for the dakota only? Is there any reason? It can't be a strenght thing because RAMs have the same engines but 5 lugs. I know, I know "Dodge Different" right? Perhaps they will change this when they re-style and add the HEMI !!!!

It's not the bed that hits, you will hit the leaf springs on the rear with the wider rear Viper wheels. Would take a lot of modification to the frame and rear end to make them work without spacer making the wheel stick out of the fenderwells.

How much would A set of viper wheels cost ????
I might have an answer for the GEN II Dakota,
Anyone else notice that the mid -to- late 90's ford full size trucks follow the same body lines of the GEN II Dak's? One could take the duelly fenders from A 1-ton Ford, and cut open the wheel wells on the Dak. to allow room for the wide rear wheel from A viper.

Just an Idea.

It's the backspacing on the viper rears. The most economical way to make them fit would be to send them to Stocton wheels and have them pull them out some. I bet that cost $2-300 each over and above the $300+ each the viper wheels would cost used. Just using 4 front rims is the only sensible way to go, even then you could just get the new 20's that look better, for less.

HSKR have you seen the 18 x 10" Viper wheel on an
unmodded Gen III for sure? I really want to do
that but the wheels cost too much to experiment on
even one. Got any jpegs of an instalation. I'm
talking stock height here not lowered at all.

Any info would be much appreciated. Send me an
E-mail.

Thanks.

Hey Eric,

Haven't we had this conversation before? 8-)
First I want to pay as little as possible for
Viper rims. I'm slowly putting together a little
project and I want to use as many factory HP parts
as I can find.

The Idea is "What if the Factory made an ACR
version of the Dakota?" It may be a little "Rice"
but I'm aproaching it more as a restification.
Like turning an old Satelite into a GTX. For
rolling stock I figure it shoulda had the lowest
profile rollers the factory offered, that would fit.

Stay sane,
stay Strong.

No jpg's that I can think of, but I have seen them on a Dakota. If the factory were to make an ACR version, don't you think it woudl be lowered?? The Dakota R/T is pretty much an ACR Dakota without the pricy suspension mods. Put Hotchkis on the Dakota R/T and you have an ACR Dak.

Too much stuff that don't matter on an R/T. The ACR shoulda come with no power windows, no radio, Hurst shifted manual trans... and so on. I like the R/T but it's more of a GTX. I'd equate the ACR as more of a Roadrunner.

ACR less show more go.

imho

My R/T doesn't have power windows, power locks, power seat, power mirrors, overhead console, and just a standard Am/Fm Cass with 4 little speakers. The only real power is under the hood!. The only options my R/T has is HD cooling, A/C, floor mats, 5.9, automatic, and the R/T package which includes cruise, tilt, fog lights, 3.92 LS, 17" wheels, fender flairs, the R/T suspension, painted bumpers, and stickers. The only real creature comforts are the cruise and A/C, the rest are all functional. I do understand what you are saying though, at the time I got my r/t I could have gotten a stripped down 4.7/5-speed, 3.92 limited slip for $3000 less. In the end I would have wanted to add most of that R/T stuff and would have used up that $3000 difference doing it and then not had the added value of the R/T in the end.

Hersbird,
Nice option list, I didn't know you could "strip
down" an R/T that far. (Thumbs Up) I'm not
trying to pick a fight here I'm just trying to
build my truck the way I want it. That is, a sort
of homage to the superstock type factory racecars
that Dodge used to and continue to put out.

mods so far.

removed fog lights (ACR)
Relocated Bat. (Super Stock)
Hurst Shifter (Super Stock)
Radio Delete (ACR, Super Stock)
ACR Badging on doors and tailgate.
Performance muff (previous owner)

planned mods,
Improved wheel tire package (ACR)
Improved Factory style Single exhaust with dump
port. (Super Stock)
Duct cooling for front calipers (from foglight
holes, ACR)
twin cold air filter setup from under the bumper
ducted through the rad support on each side.

If I ever get inside the engine I want to use old
fashioned hot rod hp builder tricks like improved
intake, porting, better cam, windage tray and I'm
going to try and stay normally aspirated.

I can't go too low on the suspension since It's my
all season ride. I might go R/T height. It seems
that every mod I've done so far has just been an
Idea I've been playing around with in my head
until I convince myself to go through with it.
I'm having a lot of fun though and that's all that
matters in the end.

Build what you like,
and you'll like what you build!

Middy.

Bryan,
Lowest cost I've found for Viper 18 x 10" five
spokes is $495 each and the place gives you a $25
per wheel discount if you buy 4. then you gotta
add taxes, buy rubber, mount em up.

Not cheap would be an understatment. I'd do it as
soon as I could afford to, if I knew for sure it'd
all ride and not rub. 8-D

As for the the VIPER wheels the fronts are 17x10 and the rears are 17x13 and the newer VIPERS are 18x10 and 18x13 i dont think they would fit but it sure would be nice to see a set under a DAKOTA as for selling them Hennessey Motorsports sells them for a decent price, plus they sell a few other parts that they take off the VIPER for us to have fun with.

I think those old 3 spoke style viper wheels are pretty ulgy. The 5 spoke 'star' type would probalby look best on the Dakota, and the new lotsa spoke ARC Viper wheels might look to "classy", I don't know how to describe it. Actually that newest ACR Viper wheels style is about my favorite wheels syle (like the BBS option on the WRX's) but only for a car, trucks need something tougher looking. The 5 star wheels that first showed up on the 97 Viper GTS would look the best IMO.

Point taken on the ACR Middy. It woudl be nice if Dodge did sell some sort of stripper performance truck, but it won't happen. Dodge wouldn't seel a ACR Dak either. Too little weight over the rear tires for ACR handling. Your mods completed and future sound good. Will be nice to see the finished product and see how well you do in SCCA competition.

tirerack does have a BBS wheels for the viper that are like $850 each for the front, but I doubt they are the race BBS wheel. There are a set of the race viper wheels and slicks for sale on E-bay but they are even wider then the factory wheels!
