Subject: Detailing GenII motor??? IP: Logged
Message: Hey! I'm planning on taking my truck to the Mopar Grand Nationals this year and wanted to find a way to get my engine compartment clean. I'm worried about using water with some degreaser because if anyone has seen the engine Compartment of a GenII V6 it's got more wires and hoses running in more ways than I care to acknowledge. And if anyone has found a way to organize that madness that would help too. If it helps I am planning on putting a red hose dress-up kit in the very near future.

Message: The wires and hoses in your engine compartment should be water proof. If they are not water proof you need to fix them!!!! You should avoid useing silicone based dressings under the hood. The silicone can be sucked into the intake track and they (silicones) will ruin your O2 sensor. I used armor all for 16 years on one vechile and never had a problem but I just read an article a while back from alldata about this. It must be a real problem for some vechiles. Most engine cleaners tell you to avoid useing on alluminum or electronic devices. You should put some platic over, distributor, alternator, and ECM/PCM module. I would buy a gallon of Castrol Super Clean and put it in a spray bottel.

Message: When I detail an engine, I just soak it down with some GP (degreaser if it's bad enough), let it sit a minute, scrub with a meduim-bristled brush and then hose it off. Then I air-hose everything completely dry (especially the stuff that looks like it probably shouldn't be wet like the plugs, distributor, and anything else that looks like that). I do an engine at work atleast twice a day, and have never had any problems.
