Message: Regular use of any good tire dressing will keep them black. I have used several different brands with good results. I also bought some of the yellow and black sponge applicators for the tire dressing. They are not quite as messy as using a rag.

Message: Some of those foam tire sprays will turn your tires brown. Be careful what you buy.

Message: I always use an SOS pad or fine steel wool with soapy water. It keeps the white letters white (if you have them) and it keeps the rest of the tire black.
Cheers!

Message: The best tire cleaner by far is Grease Lightning. Spray on, brush for 5 seconds, rinse off. Brake dust on white letters comes off instantly, and the letters are perfectly white, with the black rich and dark.

Message: The best stuff I have used is Westley's Bleche White. Actually makes my tires black when I use it! It is pretty amazing stuff, but also pretty caustic. I wear a mask when I use it.

Message: I've tried em all -- Wesley's, Comet, Brillo pads. You name it. A fellow biker buddy of mine told me the best way to detail a motor is grab a gallon of that "purple stuff" (comes in a variety of names) you find in Pep Boys, Auto Zone - it's the stuff you dilute for your Power Washer. Put some of this in a spray bottle -- undiluted! Spray on tires -- even white lettering -- let sit only a minute - hose off immediately. Unbelievable results, dirt cheap. One gallon lasts me two months! Also, have used it on my bikes engine and both truck motors (which are clean enough to eat off of, although who would want to). You have to be careful with this spray on some types of metals. Discoloration can occur. For example, got a little overspray on the bikes brushed aluminum wheel (front one) and there's a couple of very small grey spots. - Jim

Message: Be careful with the Westley's Bleceh-White around polished aluminum wheels ... it'll phuck up the finish.
Your best bet is to hit 'em with an SOS pad first, rinse, and then give em a shot of tire foam. I'll then give them a coat of Tire Wet if I really want a shine.

Message: My best results have been with a tire brush and Comet or Ajax or Cameo. That spray on tire sh$t just makes the tires collect dirt faster. Looks good for a little bit. Also have noticed that that spay on stuff drips down onto the wheels and they collect more brake dust. I think the Comet and a good brush works better than anything else.

Message: Here's my trick for keeping the tire spray off the wheels ...
Ya know the round plastic domes they use to "squirrel-proof" bird feeders? Just so happens the one I found in the garage is 15" in diameter -- same as my wheels. Hold that over the wheel and spray to your hearts content! hehehe

Message: As for keeping them from coming back, it would be kinda tough. That brown band is brake dust, unless you don't plan on using your brakes, it is an inevitable occurance. :) But a little bit of elbow grease and good spray will remove it.
