Message: Does anybody have under dash lights that come on when the doors are opened? My Haynes manual shows them on the wiring diagrams, but since it also covers durangos it might be generic.Haven't looked for plugs yet ,but thought I'd ask anyway.

Message: None on my 2002. And as long as were on the topic of lights, mine doesn't have a light under the hood! I thought this was pretty standard on new trucks. My manual also mentions a light in the floor console that comes on when you open it. No light there either. I still love my new truck though. You know it would be easy to mount some little lights under the dash. Pep Boys and Auto Zone sell accent lighting for stuff like this.

Message: When I bought my dakota in 97 I didnt get the courtesy lighting option. However, after looking under the dash I found the plug for the passenger side floor area. It was mounted towards the center of the truck. All I had to do was put a light in it and it worked. I havent found one on the drivers side though. I also found one for the ash reciever behind the ash reciever top plate. Im am not sure if they still install the wires on any newer ones since I have never looked. Hope this helps.

Message: I agree wholeheartedly on the "Cheap Bastards" remark, a underhood light is a no-brainer.
I'd think you still could order a underhood light from the dealer for a 2001 and retrofit it to work with the '02's. I'll probably give it a shot.

Message: Its amazing how much money they can save by de-contenting a bunch of little items like the lights. Think about it: No light bulb, no socket, no connector, no pig tail on the wire harness, etc. I work in this business and the bean counters have the final say. It frustrates me to no end.
My 02 QC has no console light, no hood liner, no under hood light and a steel stamped spare tire rim instead of the cast AL. I am pretty unhappy with the removal of these items, but pretty happy with the truck overall. Funny how the cost of the vehicle goes up every year but the content dwindles. I guess it has to do with the million dollar bonuses and salaries reaped by the few. This industry is so damn corrupt that it makes Enron look like a bunch of children.

Message: First off I was looking for the courtesy light harness or what not for alarm reasons. I need to know where it is exactly I dont feel like looking all over the truck for it be specific.
Second off; This really gave me the red a$$ (and Im black) I was looking at my guages and such and in a shadow saw the "DOOR AJAR" light in the background. I was curious why I never saw it on and thought maybe it was just the light being out. So I disconnected the guage panel and all took it out and flipped it over to see that it is a mulitfunction light. So I saw that the light controlled 3 different things including my park brake. One of the contacts on where the door ajar would be was not there. Like never there. Dodge was too cheap to put that contact as a standard feature in the Dakotas. I was so pissed that I left my work place for the day (New York Auto Sound). What kind of bull is that too cheap for the door ajar light, ohh and the glove compartment light. Sorry just venting... Be safe dak drivers...

Message: 2000's have underhood lining? My 2000 Quad doesn't have it. Now I really am pissed.*L*
I find it strange how Chrysler options out some Daks. I've been looking on Ebay alot and Around the local lots at new ones becaus I'm thinking of getting a newer model. Well, For some odd reason alot of Dakotas don't come with power windows and locks for some reason. I mean almost all Rams have them, Slts and sports, but I have seen even SLT dakotas wihtout power windows and locks and I thought that came standard on them. As much as a new Dakota costs every one but the Sts should have power windows and locks. I have also seen some on ebay that will have like power mirrors, Infinity sound but no power windows or locks. What the hell is Chrysler thinking?????? And reading this stuff about them not including lights and stuff makes me think about it that much more. My 2000 has the underhood light but it only works when it wants so all you guys who don't have one aren't missing out on much. I too had noticed the Door ajar light on my dash but wondered why it never worked. Damn German bastards!*L* Overall I love my truck and probably will get another Dakota and if not a Dakota a Ram, but I can't figure out their thinking on how they option these trucks and especially little things like everybody mentioned like underhood lining and iterior lights.

Message: Could be that Rams,Durango and Dakotas share the same gauge pod and I would think some of the same basic wiring harness parts also,so, depending on the option level, some stuff works some don't. Look around, at,in and so on ,some of the connections might be there just not hooked up.I had a plug for the underhood light, just no light. Same thing with the under dash light,,,socket,no bulb.Get a diagram and search around,it might be there.

Message: I have a 2002 SLT+ and noticed that there isn't a light in the center console also. Nor is there a light under the hood which kinda bites. I do have power locks and windows though. And as for the Door Ajar light, mine works. So I don't know if it is just a fluke and they forgot yours or what...

Message: I will be adding non Dodge courtesy lights under my dash of my 2000 Dakota Sport. I went to my local auto parts shop and bought several small square trailer marker lights $2-$3 each. After taking them apart I was left with a small light plug, bulb and short lenth of wire for power. Since the plugs have built in ground I could simply screw it to anything metal. Run a wire in behind the dome light control switch which should turn then on. I am planning to add two courtesy lights under the dash and one under each seat for back seat users.Hmm red LED bulbs should be good. Also I do not have O.E.M. Cargo lights either. I removed the C.M.B.L.cover and discovered three bulbs. One is the brake light and the other two were wired for Cargo area but were not hooked into anything. So I will try wiring them from my interior light by using a coat hanger pulling a wire inside the head liner from that light to the wiring harness above the door panel, where the existing Cargo wiring seems to be heading. Might need to add bigger fuse if all works out?
